Reporting directly to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the Associate Director, Human Resources serves as the operational leader of a lean, high-performing Human Resources team supporting employees across the U.S. while partnering closely with international HR colleagues. This role is responsible for ensuring the successful execution of day-to-day HR operations while serving as a trusted advisor to employees and senior leadership.

Description

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources function, managing a small U.S.-based HR team while partnering closely with international HR colleagues.
  • Manage complex employee relations matters, serving as a trusted, objective resource for employees and business leaders.
  • Partner with the CHRO on compensation planning, including maintaining compensation structures, supporting annual compensation cycles, responding to pay transparency inquiries, and developing compensation recommendations.
  • Participate in talent review, succession planning, and workforce strategy discussions with executive leadership.
  • Support-and when appropriate, lead-sensitive conversations with senior leaders using diplomacy, sound judgment, and professionalism.
  • Oversee recruiting, onboarding, HR reporting, and HR data integrity across existing systems and processes.
  • Lead the HR team during high-volume or time-sensitive periods by establishing priorities, coordinating work, and facilitating regular team check-ins.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to support employee communications and change management initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement of HR systems and processes, including leveraging AI and technology to modernize operations and improve efficiency.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to meet business needs beyond standard business hours when required.

Profile

  • 8+ years of progressive Human Resources generalist experience, with demonstrated breadth and depth across core HR disciplines.
  • Experience working in a lean, fast-paced environment such as a startup, entrepreneurial company, nonprofit, or high-growth organization strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting or working within a mission-driven organization is a plus.
  • Proven experience partnering with senior leaders, including executive-level stakeholders.
  • Prior people leadership experience preferred; formal management title not required if responsibilities demonstrate equivalent leadership.
  • Strong expertise across employee relations, compensation, talent management, recruitment, onboarding, and HR operations.
  • Excellent judgment, objectivity, and the ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to navigate difficult conversations and influence senior stakeholders with professionalism and diplomacy.
  • Comfortable operating in environments with evolving processes and systems, demonstrating resourcefulness and adaptability.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to analyze issues, identify solutions, and proactively recommend improvements.
  • Hands-on leadership style with the ability to balance strategic planning and day-to-day execution.
  • Interest in leveraging AI and emerging technologies to improve HR processes and operational effectiveness.
