Job Description

Job Summary:

Serves as the designated Center staff member dedicated to supporting Center-driven advocacy programs, to include Stetson-hosted competitions and the efforts of our external competition teams and their directors. Supports the Center for Advocacy Education in other Center activities, to include managing the daily activities for Advocacy Center-sponsored conferences, workshops, and hosted advocacy competitions. Works on other tasks as assigned by the Director, Center for Advocacy Education.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: Employment duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Supporting the Directors of Trial Team, Moot Court, and Dispute Resolution with the approval of the Center Director.

  • Supporting Center initiatives on campus, including advocacy board try-outs, admittedand prospectivestudent events, and intramural competitions.

  • Maintaining the Center for Advocacy Education's and Trial Team's digital presence on appropriate social media platforms.

  • Maintaining advocacy competition teams achievement information for honors and awards. Supporting the Center for Advocacy Education in Advocacy Programs related to maintaining the preeminence of Stetsons Advocacy reputation. Examples of such support include:

  • Assisting in planning, hosting, and presenting at Center-sponsored conferences, including the annual Educating Advocacy Teachers Conference, annual Writing Workshop and Competition, and Oxford Comparative Trial Skills Course.

  • Managing regional, national, and international competitions hosted by the Advocacy Centerincluding the National Pretrial Competition (NPTC).Updating the AdvocacyCenter webpages regularly.

  • Assisting in the development and administration of professional development courses and certificatessponsored by the Center.

  • Providing assistance for operations associated with Student Body involvement in advocacy programs, competitions, and center activities; andassiststeams wishing to travel to competitions that are not covered by the school competition boards.

  • Maintains a collaborative work environment and works well with others.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Education: J.D.or masters degree in a relevant field of study, such as Business Administration or Higher Education required. One to three years of experience in a relevant field preferred.

The preferred candidate will have experience in developing and running programs or demonstrate the willingness and skill set necessary to develop such expertise. An understanding of working in a nonprofit environment is preferred, with exposure to higher education a plus.

Work Environment and Special Considerations: Work duties performed primarily in temperature-controlled office, with frequent student interaction. Lifting occasionally up to 20 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work authorization sponsorship may be available for this position. However, sponsorship is contingent upon the non-applicability of the visa petition fees outlined in the relevant Executive Order signed September 19, 2025. Due to the recent federally-mandated increased financial expense, the university is not in a position to absorb this significantly increased cost of sponsorship for new H-1B petitions at this time.
