JOB SUMMARY

The Asian American Cultural Center (AsACC) at the University of Connecticut seeks an Associate Director for Programming (Senior Student Services Program Administrator P5). The Associate Director will serve as a leader in the program development efforts in the Center. Reporting to the Director of the Asian American Cultural Center, this position is charged with planning, organizing, and administering programs designed to provide awareness and understanding of the Asian and Asian American community, social support for student constituents, and assistance in achieving their professional, educational, and personal goals.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in organizational, managerial and communication skills. They should have the ability to evaluate, problem-solve and troubleshoot to resolve difficult situations and be detail-oriented with strong interpersonal skills. The candidate should demonstrate evidence of a firm commitment to social justice and transparency within a community of diverse racial, ethnic, socio-economic, gender, gender expression, and other identities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides advocacy and support for Asian/Asian American students' concerns; provides information, referral, and appropriate counsel to individuals seeking support.
• Lead Center-wide strategy for pursuing Federal and State grant funding, as well as private foundation grants, aligned to AsACC's priorities and capacity.
• Research, analyze, and understand federal, state, college, and funding agent fiscal and procedural requirements.
• Provide support with developing, editing, writing, organizing, and submitting grant proposals.
• Collaborates with other cultural centers and University offices/departments to identify ways to develop new collaborative programs and initiatives.
• Responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and support services for students, faculty, and staff.
• Promotes the cultural center's services and programs and works with the center staff responsible for specific marketing activities.
• Develops and facilitates workshops, trainings and other educational activities for students, faculty, staff, and administrators on current issues affecting the Asian/Asian American community.
• Supervises and evaluates the Graduate Assistant and the undergraduate student coordinators for the Asian/Asian American Mentoring Program (AMP), the Pan Asian Council, and the student programmers.
• Manages the programming budgets; approves all related expenditures; and assists in setting budget priorities and recommendations.
• Oversees all aspects of the AMP, a peer-to-peer mentoring program for first-year and new transfer students, including the selection process for student mentors, the training of all selected student mentors and mentees, and program assessment/evaluation.
• Serves as the teaching assistant for the required three-credit course for all AMP Mentors: The Asian American Experience, AASI 3398, a course offered by the Asian & Asian American Studies Institute.
• Serves as the advisor to the Pan Asian Council, a council of student representatives from Asian/Asian American registered student organizations on the Storrs campus.
• Represents AsACC at meetings with other University offices or external groups as needed.
• Perform related duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• UConn employee on regular payroll.
• Masters degree and at least 4 years progressively responsible experience supporting student growth and development OR Bachelor's degree and at least 6 years of related experience. Experience must include administrative and program planning with an ethnic specific or multicultural environment and two years of experience must be serving as an advanced or senior team member or working as a project lead.
• Experience in grant writing, development, and/or management of grants.
• Demonstrated experience developing educational and community programs.
• Experience designing programs and resources that consider cultural constructions of race as it intersects with gender, class, ethnicity, sexual identity, religion, and ability.
• Experience with programming budgets.
• Supervisory or management experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's degree in Student Affairs, counseling, or a related specialty area.
• More than 4 years of related professional experience in an Asian American/multicultural center or non-profit/community setting or similar field of work.
• Understanding of issues impacting the experience of students historically underrepresented at AsACC, including students of color, first-generation and undocumented students.
• Three (3) or more years of increasingly responsible grant development experience, with significant federal and/or state proposal leadership experience.
• Training in diversity education, social justice, cultural competency, or other related fields.
• Knowledge of one or more Asian languages.
• Teaching experience.
• Knowledge of assessment/evaluation related to student learning and development.
• Experience working with student organizations.
