Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Serve as an Academic Advisor to student-athletes. Provide academic advising, planning and other support for student-athletes in other areas of course selection, registration procedures, degree requirements and career goals. Also serve as liaison to other academic advisors as needed Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletics Director of Academics.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related field and 5 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with academics in a college athletics environment is strongly preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to work with a diverse student-athlete population.
  • Communicate effectively with students, professors, peers and parents.
  • Strong background in NCAA Progress Towards Degree and athletics certification.

Job Duties

Job Duty

Serve as academic advisor to student-athletes of assigned sports. Advise and meet with students on academic performance, course/major selection, developing a graduation plan, time management, goal setting, career planning, learning and study strategies, test taking, note taking and other skills necessary for academic success.

Maintain student-athlete eligibility by University of South Carolina, SEC and NCAA standards, rules and regulations. Provide professional level support and programs to student-athletes in accordance with the regulations HIPPA, FERPA and ADA.

Cultivate and maintain sustainable working relationships with student-athletes, coaches, and staff.

Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 10 Job Duty

Maintain regular verbal communication and written status reports to coaches regarding academic issues and concerns. Communicate regularly with admissions, compliance and campus partners in recruitment process and providing preliminary admission while assisting with initial eligibility for prospective student-athletes.

Develop and evaluate team academic success plans each semester.

Meet with recruits in assigned sports to provide an overview of available academic services and be able to communicate our staff philosophy and mission.

Serve as committee chair for a selected Dodie committee and oversee Dodie Committees in conjunction with Senior Associate Athletic Director of Academics. Will lead regular meetings with committee members, set agenda for the academic year, and provide yearly recap to Senior Associate AD/Academics.
