Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs, College of Nursing

Xavier University's College of Nursing invites applications for the position of Associate Dean, Undergraduate Programs. As part of a Jesuit Catholic institution committed to academic excellence, service, and the formation of the whole person, this leadership role provides vision and strategic direction for all programs leading to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

The Associate Dean is responsible for advancing high-quality, student-centered undergraduate nursing education grounded in Xavier's mission of educating individuals for others. This individual will have responsibility and accountability for University and College strategic goals and for implementing activities outlined in the College of Nursing's Systematic Evaluation Plan. The Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs reports directly to the Dean of the College of Nursing.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Administration

  • Provide leadership and vision for undergraduate nursing programs, including the BSN and Accelerated BSN (ABSN).
  • Serve on the Dean's Academic Leadership Team and contribute to strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with BSN and ABSN program chairs, offering mentorship, guidance, and operational support.
  • Ensure alignment with Xavier University's mission, Jesuit values, and institutional strategic priorities.
  • Participate in budget planning, identifying and justifying resources needed to support program excellence.
  • Assess faculty and resource needs based on enrollment trends and projections.
  • Recommend full-time faculty hires and collaborate on the hiring and evaluation of adjunct faculty.
  • Develop program schedules and faculty assignments in collaboration with program administrators
  • Participate in student admission, progression, recruitment, and retention initiatives.
  • Build and sustain partnerships with healthcare systems and community organizations to support clinical placements and experiential learning.
  • Oversee curriculum implementation, instructional quality, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Oversee CN committees, as appropriate, in collaboration with program administrators
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs to ensure accuracy of the College of Nursing student handbook.
  • Work with administrative staff to support data collection, reporting, and process improvement.

Accreditation & Assessment

  • Provide leadership in assessment processes to support continuous quality improvement and strategic planning.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and Ohio Board of Nursing requirements.
  • Assist in preparing reports and materials for accreditation bodies such as AACN and CCNE.
  • Monitor program outcomes, including enrollment trends and NCLEX pass rates.
  • Promote innovation by staying current with trends and best practices in undergraduate nursing education.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Teach two courses annually and advise approximately 10 students.
  • Serve as a liaison to health system partners and participate in practice committees as appropriate.
  • Represent the College of Nursing on University committees and at institutional events.
  • Collaborate with other associate deans to mentor and support new program chairs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Dean.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Doctoral degree in nursing or a related field
  • Master's degree in nursing
  • Current, active, unencumbered RN license in the state of Ohio
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in didactic teaching and clinical supervision at the baccalaureate level
  • 3-5 years of experience as a department chair or program director

Preferred:

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current research and scholarship in nursing education
  • Commitment to community engagement and service, consistent with Jesuit values
  • Experience integrating technology to enhance student learning
  • Dedication to fostering an inclusive and diverse academic environment
