Responsible for performing activities related to the day-to-day administration and maintenance of transactional databases including designing, configuring, and managing databases to ensure the integrity, security and accessibility of the organization's data.

Essential Job Duties

  • Perform database server installations, upgrades and patching, performance tuning, security, monitoring, and configuration.

  • Define standards for physical data storage, maintenance, access, and security administration.

  • Perform backup and recovery using native and third-party backup tools.

  • Configure server and database settings for optimal database functionality.

  • Create, maintain, and troubleshoot automated database jobs.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve database connectivity and performance issues.

  • Monitor server and database metrics and respond to/resolve alerts.

  • Administer and maintain database access.

  • Create and maintain database and server documentation.

  • Assume other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Not responsible for supervising employees.

Minimum Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret graphs.

  • Demonstrate use of computer operations (programming, relational databases, and operating systems) and software packages.

  • Basic messages communicated orally. May write brief messages and keep simple records.

  • Problems encountered are routine, somewhat repetitive and generally solved by following clear directions and procedures.

  • Job Specific Impact - Decisions generally affect own job or assigned functional area.

  • Results are defined and existing practices are used as guidelines for how to complete work activities; works closely with supervisor/manager who provides broad guidance and overall direction.

  • Foundational - Prioritize assigned and routine tasks. Handle appropriately.

Essential Physical Demands/Work Environment  

  • Work is primarily sedentary: must be able to sit for extended periods and use a computer, keyboard, and mouse, frequently.

  • Travel may be required periodically, including overnight stays (contingent on position requirements).

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
