Minimum qualifications:

  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.
  • Experience advising clients in structuring commercial transactions.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in successfully performing in high stakes, high pressure environments.
  • Experience structuring, drafting and negotiating a range of complex commercial agreements (e.g., services, integrations, intellectual property licensing, co-development, etc.).
  • Ability to work proactively (not reactively) to help drive the business; coordinating across multiple functions (e.g., business development, product, engineering, supply chain, marketing, finance, compliance, HR) and lines of business.

About the job

We’re seeking a commercial attorney to support partnerships across a wide array of products and subscription services for our hardware products (including Pixel, Fitbit, Google Home, and more), as well as Google Beam, Chrome Browser, and Chrome OS. This position involves working closely with business development, product, and cross-functional teams on matters spanning product integrations, licensing, content, services, hardware/software development and support, distribution, and other strategic partnerships -- often on a cross-product area, bespoke, and/or first-of-a-kind basis. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $218,000-$315,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Perform legal analysis, complete complex legal assignments independently, respond promptly to legal requests from clients and legal colleagues, summarizing and communicating legal concepts and potential courses of action that business partners can use.
  • Structure, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements on a daily basis. Ensure agreements comply with company policy and risk tolerance.
  • Advise on legal and commercial issues and options across all functions (including business development, product, operations, engineering, sales, marketing, finance, tax, compliance) across the company.
  • Advise clients on risks and options, complex deal structures, approval processes, company policies and procedures, IP, and business strategy.
  • Support the continuous improvement and scale of legal processes, deal processes, and company policies, including through the application of AI tool.
