Job Description:

  • The Laundry/Kennel Technician supports daily operations within LSU's Veterinary Teaching Hospital by maintaining kennel upkeep, ensuring proper and efficient handling of laundry, and assisting with cleanliness in patient care areas. Responsibilities include washing and distributing towels, fleeces and other linens, cleaning cages and treatment areas, restocking supplies, and supporting veterinary staff with basic animal care tasks. This position extends to Shared Services by providing technical assistance and operational support as assigned across multiple services within the hospital. This role requires attention to detail, reliability, the ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and patient care.

Associate Clinical Specialist 1:

45%-Assist with general hospital sanitation. Primary responsibilities in laundry upkeep and distribution, kennel cleaning, and supporting the routine cleaning and disinfection of exam rooms. Assist with developing and following a cleaning schedule for room fogging and cage door washing throughout patient wards.

25%-As assigned, provide coverage for service technicians during their absence by assisting with patient care, sample collection and submission, patient restraint, and coordination of diagnostic requests. Maintain a basic working knowledge of specialized equipment used in each service area. When appropriate, communicate with the primary service technician and service clinicians, and maintain accurate records to ensure seamless transitions when rotating on and off each service.

15%-Assist with monitoring inventory levels in treatment rooms, patient care areas, and the laundry room, restocking supplies as needed to maintain hospital readiness. Communicate with hospital supply personnel to coordinate orders and ensure adequate linen inventory is maintained.

10%-Work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays as assigned. Assist with blood bank on-call and emergency response shifts in the SAICU / SAER as assigned.

5%-Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree; OR associate's degree in veterinary technology OR credentials as a vet tech or equivalent OR 3 years of experience in a working environment with similar duties.

Associate Clinical Specialist 2:

Associate Clinical Specialist 3:

45%-Perform general hospital sanitation; instruct others on procedures and protocols. Primary responsibilities in laundry upkeep and distribution, kennel cleaning, and supporting the routine cleaning and disinfection of exam rooms. Develop and follow a cleaning schedule for room fogging and cage door washing throughout patient wards.

25%-As assigned, provide coverage for service technicians during their absence by performing and instructing techniques in patient care, sample collection and submission, patient restraint, and coordination of diagnostic requests. Maintain a basic working knowledge of specialized equipment used in each service area. When appropriate, communicate with the primary service technician and service clinicians, and maintain accurate records to ensure seamless transitions when rotating on and off each service.

15%-Monitor inventory levels in treatment rooms, patient care areas, and the laundry room, restocking supplies as needed to maintain hospital readiness. Communicate with hospital supply personnel to coordinate orders and ensure adequate linen inventory is maintained. Instruct others on proper procedures and protocols.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree; OR associates degree in veterinary technology with 4 years' experience OR credentials as a vet tech or equivalent with 4 years' experience OR 7 years of experience in a working environment with similar duties.

Additional Job Description:

  • Required to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and "on-call"/relief shifts.
  • Per PS 18- This position is a part of the Emergency Response Personnel - these personnel are linked with the hospital during any emergency response event and are expected to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan.
  • Required to be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, able to reach above and below the shoulder, vision (near sight), vision (far sight), sitting, bending, climbing, crawling, pushing/pulling, grasping, squatting, and/or twisting.
  • Due to the nature of this position and/or responsibilities, this position is subject to random drug & alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67
