POSITION SUMMARY
The Associate Nurse Manager ensures expert nursing care delivery, supporting staff education, achievement of quality outcomes, evidence-based clinical practice, and leadership. The Associate Nurse Manager supervises team members in their daily activities to ensure the delivery of care according to established departmental policies and procedures. This position assumes responsibility and accountability for the direction, implementation, and evaluation of patient care services within the assigned unit at the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager and in their absence. This role is broad in scope and requires the ability to work independently and apply a high degree of judgment. The Associate Nurse Manager serves as a key supportive leader on the unit to ensure the delivery of patient care through the coordination of customer services and the leadership and management of the nursing unit at the direction of the Clinical Manager. The Associate Nurse Manager will also be responsible for the following:
• Assists the Clinical Manager in coordinating interdepartmental and ancillary activities to ensure quality, cost-effective patient care. • Assists the Clinical Manager in leading the patient care team to meet the needs of the customers and to achieve departmental objectives. • Assists the Clinical Manager in ensuring that the staff participates in educational activities and the evaluation process to enhance their personal growth and development. • Acting as a liaison between nursing and medical staff, serving as a problem-solver and mediator for positive change, develops and maintains effective intra and interdepartmental relationships. • This position establishes and maintains communication with physicians, patients, and their families and other professionals to promote mutual understanding of problems and plans of care. • This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts, and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required. Bachelors in nursing.
License and Certification: Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey. American Heart Association BLS required. Critical Care Registered Nurse CCRN certification obtained through the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses or the Certified Nurse Manager and Leader CNML certification through the American Organization of Nursing Leadership obtained within 2 years.
EXPERIENCE
Meets qualifications as outlined for specialty. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and leadership skills required. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire. Incumbents within position will be trained appropriately, and then the skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from the date of hire.
ADVANCED SPECIALTY EXPERIENCE CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Emergency Room:
• 2-4 years medical-surgical experience required. 2 years emergency room experience preferred. • TNCC, ACLS, and PALS or ENP
Emergency Room City:
• 2-4 years medical-surgical experience required. 2 years emergency room experience preferred. • TNCC or ATCN
Labor and Delivery:
• 2-4 years labor and delivery experience required. • NALS required
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit:
• 2-4 years neonatal intensive care unit experience required. • NALS required
Mother-Baby Unit:
• 2-4 years mother-baby experience preferred. • NALS required
Operating Room:
• Minimum 1 year medical-surgical experience desired. 1-2 years operating room experience desired. • CNOR preferred
Critical Care:
• 2-4 years medical-surgical experience required. 1-2 years critical care experience preferred. • ACLS required • CCRN preferred
Medical-Surgical:
• 1-2 years medical-surgical experience preferred. • None
Dialysis:
• 1-2 years medical-surgical experience required. 1-2 years dialysis experience preferred. • ACLS preferred but not required
Psychiatry:
• 1-2 years medical-surgical experience required. 1-2 years psychiatry experience preferred. • Crisis intervention experience preferred for PIP

Pediatrics:
• 1-2 years medical-surgical experience required. 1-2 years pediatric experience strongly preferred. • PALS required
Radiology:
• 2-4 years medical-surgical experience required. 1-2 years interventional experience preferred. • Critical Care experience preferred • ACLS required
ADVANCED SPECIALTY EXPERIENCE CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Cath Lab:
• 1-2 years critical care emergency room or telemetry experience required. 1 year cath-lab experience preferred. • ACLS required
Trauma:
• 2-4 years medical-surgical experience required. 1-2 years trauma experience preferred. • ACLS, TNCC required
Oncology:
• 1-2 years medical-surgical experience preferred. Chemotherapy experience preferred
Endoscopy:
• Minimum 2 years medical-surgical experience required. 1 year telemetry experience preferred. • 1 year of Endo or O.R. experience preferred. • ACLS is required. PALS and CCRN are preferred. CGRN preferred
Cardiac Diagnostic:
• 1-2 years medical-surgical experience required. 1-2 years critical care experience preferred. • ACLS is required
Cardiovascular ICU:
• 2-4 years critical care experience required. 2-4 years cardiovascular ICU experience preferred. • ACLS required. CCRN preferred
Intermediate Care:
• 2-5 years telemetry experience required. • ACLS required
Telemetry:
• 1-2 years medical-surgical experience preferred. • ACLS preferred
Radiation Oncology:
• 1-3 years oncology experience required. • OCN preferred
PACUSDS:
• 1-3 years critical care experience preferred. • ACLS required. PALS preferred
Pre-Admission Testing:
• 1-3 years medical-surgical experience required.
Prenatal Perinatology and Family Planning:
• 2-4 years experience in Womens Health inpatient/outpatient experience required. • OB Certification preferred
Practice Management:
• 1-2 years medical-surgical experience preferred.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Demonstrates the ability to perform the department-specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, blood-borne pathogens, and potential injury.
Physical demands include but are not limited to consideration stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing heavy equipment, and excessive standing and walking. Lifting approximately 25-50 lbs. frequently lifting 50-10 lbs. with assistance occasionally. Some departments require the ability to distinguish colors.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
This position reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager as established and supervises the licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, and patient care unit staff as assigned. This position reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
