Position Summary
The Department of Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine is seeking an organized and energetic Associate Clerkship Director. This position involves working with the Statewide Clerkship Director and the regional site leaders to facilitate the learning experiences and assessment of medical students during their internal medicine clinical clerkship.
Who We Are
The Department of Medicine is the largest department in the largest US medical school with over 700 faculty members. Each year we host 370 medical students in their 8-week long Internal Medicine clerkship over 9 campus sites throughout the state. We mentor students from all campus in the planning of their 4th year and as they prepare for residency applications interviews and match rankings.
The associate clerkship directors will collaborate with the clerkship director in the development, delivery, and assessment of the clerkships curriculum effectiveness as a whole and effectiveness of participating campuses across the state. They will assist individual medical students in performing at their best, including strengthening particular knowledge, professionalism, and skills, along with career mentoring and advising.
This position is located in Indianapolis. This is one of two positions for the PHASE II core clerkship in Internal Medicine. The associate clerkship directors work closely with our statewide clerkship team, other key educators in the Department of Medicine, and the school to fulfill these responsibilities.
Responsibilities
• Assist in delivering the Clerkship Orientation to students starting the rotation 6 per academic year. • Lead 1-2 clinical reasoning sessions to the students per rotation. • Assist in providing students with additional feedback throughout the clerkship, meet with struggling students that may need additional direct observation or remediation. • Collaborate with our education specialist to help assess students via the self-regulated learning assessment to identify students in need of medical knowledge remediation training provided for this. • Review student written assignments to assist with completing course grades. These must be submitted to the director 3 weeks after the completion of each course 6 times per year. You will need to plan clinical time to accommodate this. • Assist with faculty development and education surrounding RIME assessment and expectations for students. • Collaborate with hospitalist directors or division leaders at each clinical site to provide feedback to clinical teaching faculty on completion of student evaluation and global performance. • Participate in ad hoc grade committees, meetings, conferences. • Attend monthly Statewide Clerkship meetings Virtual meeting Zoom with our site leaders. • Attend monthly Clerkship Working Group CWG meetings in person or via Skype Zoom when not scheduled for clinical duties. • Attend the annual IUSM Clerkship Summit. • Attend the annual CDIM national meeting in the spring supported by department. • Attending the fall meeting is optional but encouraged when initially joining the leadership team.
Support
Twenty-five percent (25) FTE protected effort supported at an academic rate by the Dept. of Medicine.

Additional Qualifications
At least 1 year of experience in medical education and/or as a clinical preceptor or completion of a chief resident year in internal medicine Passion for teaching and learning and interest in curriculum and program development and/or learner assessment and evaluation Evidence of fostering relationships in complex systems, building collaborations, and teams, innovative problem-solving, strategic vision-setting, and transformational leadership in academic medicine Desire to assist in building, leading, and executing improvement initiatives within academic medicine Model to students and peers, inclusive teaching, and delivery of specific, timely, and actionable feedback Insights on learning theory, clinical psychology, the role of learner wellness, and how it affects learning and executive functioning Experience with MedHub student evaluation system
