The Associate Chair works collaboratively under the guidance of the Department Chair to support the departments academic and administrative functions. This role involves maintaining up-to-date knowledge in the teaching field, assisting in curriculum development, and ensuring the effective delivery of educational programs. The Associate Chair plays a crucial role in fostering a positive learning environment and supporting faculty and students.
Specific Position Duties
----------------------
- Maintain current knowledge in the teaching field and demonstrate the ability to teach various courses across different times, locations, and delivery methods, including CollegeNOW Academy Dual Credit classes.
- Utilize challenging coursework to help students achieve their full potential as learners.
- Provide students with clear written expectations, including syllabi, policies, assignment instructions, and graded evaluations.
- Administer appropriate assessments, including comprehensive final exams, to measure students grasp of course objectives.
- Affirm the worth and dignity of all individuals and uphold the right to learn through diverse instructional methods.
- Maintain a conducive learning and assessment climate that encourages the free exchange of ideas while upholding academic honesty and objectivity.
- Assist the Department Chair in the day-to-day operations of the department, including submitting required reports and schedules promptly.
- Direct the schedule build for the discipline and ensure compliance with instructional practices.
- Manage departmental budgets and order necessary supplies.
- Lead class observations for returning faculty and support faculty in Core Program Outcome documentation and assessment.
- Hire adjunct faculty and oversee their support plan.
- Address student complaints effectively.
- Maintain effective relationships with professional counterparts throughout the college and the community.
- Assist with recruiting, marketing, and outreach for department programs.
- Actively participate in college functions, events, and community service activities.
- Assist with department meetings, maintaining minutes and submitting them to the Dean of the School.
- Oversee curricular development and attend scheduled meetings.
- Serve as the initial signature for forms such as leave requests, incompletes, and student schedule changes.
- Attend completion ceremonies, including college graduation.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.
