Description:Associate Attorney (Workers’ Compensation)
Location: California (90% Remote, 10% In-Office)
Offices: Orange County, Los Angeles, Westlake Village, Ontario, San Diego, Sacramento, Oakland, Redding, San Jose, Fresno
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Workers’ Compensation Associate Attorney to represent insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and self-insured employers in all phases of workers’ compensation defense. This role offers a primarily remote work environment with occasional in-office presence across multiple California locations.

We take a client-centric approach, prioritizing clear communication and ensuring clients remain informed and empowered throughout the legal process. Attorneys are expected to deliver strategic, tailored defense solutions that minimize liability, protect client interests, and provide cost-effective results without compromising quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent and advocate on behalf of insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and self-insured employers
- Provide strategic legal guidance and maintain consistent client communication throughout each case
- Draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents
- Attend court appearances, hearings, and depositions
- Conduct depositions and cross-examinations of medical professionals and other witnesses
- Negotiate settlements on workers’ compensation files and lien claims
- Manage a full caseload proactively from inception through resolution
- Mentor and oversee legal assistants
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and vendors
- Participate in client development and marketing events
- Track billable time and maintain case records in billing software and PracticeMaster
- Attend client file reviews and present case strategies
- Conduct training seminars on evolving workers’ compensation laws
- Stay current on applicable case law and statutes
- Perform additional duties as needed
Practice Areas Include:
- Presumption claims
- Education Code matters
- Catastrophic injury claims
- Industrial disability retirement
- Workers’ compensation fraud investigations
- Lien resolution and walk-throughs
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2+ years of Workers’ Compensation experience
- Active license to practice law in California
- Experience representing employers, carriers, or insurers strongly preferred
- Strong writing, communication, and advocacy skills
- Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines effectively
Compensation:
Salary is commensurate with experience:
- 2–4 years: $140,000 – $180,000
- 5–7 years: ~$200,000
- 7–10 years: ~$210,000
- 10+ years: ~$220,000 (up to $230,000 for consistent high billable performance)
