Provides leadership, management, and oversight of all areas of athletic media relations and video production. Responsible for assisting in the development of integrated creative strategies, planning, and execution of all athletics communication programs.

Description of Duties

  • Collaborates in leadership, planning, and execution of all communication programs, including media relations, video production, athletic web page, radio, internet, and television broadcasts.
  • Oversees the office of athletics communications including: media relations, sports information, print and electronic publication designs and website development and management.
  • Establishes goals, objectives, and strategies for the assigned staff; develops and implements programs and activities to accomplish goals.
  • Serves as part of a department's leadership team for the planning, creation and execution of athletic communication programs.
  • Manages the planning, implementation, and supervision of media relations activities for the assigned athletic programs.
  • Regularly evaluates programs, assesses progress toward goals, and provides results to supervisor.
  • Represents department at Southland Conference Basketball Media Day and Championships
  • Directs postgame press conferences.
  • Leads the creation and execution of basketball yearbooks.
  • Oversees the development of media guides. Ensures the image of the University's Athletics program is aligned with University goals, policies and standards, to attract and retain students.
  • Interacts with local, regional, and national media to place/pitch stories and ideas, enhancing the reach and visibility of athletic programs.
  • Hires, trains and supervises all assigned staff.
  • Sets priorities and responsibilities for game day stats crew operations.
  • Monitors the formulation and coordination of projects or event specifications, requirements for contracts and proposals, and associated documents.
  • Develops, cultivates, and maintains working relationships with internal/external departments/agencies and other organizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Specific supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.

Licenses/Certifications

None.

Required Experience

Four (4) years of professional experience in media relations, including previous administrative and supervisory experience.

Preferred Experience

Experience obtained in a NCAA Division I or Division II institution.

Equipment

Standard office equipment.

Working Conditions

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office environment; some travel and constant weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Must be a person of integrity with high educational standards while exhibiting a strict adherence to NCAA, Conference, university and Department rules and regulations as well as a solid commitment to academic integrity, student-athlete welfare, and any applicable NCAA standards. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong writing, editing, computer and oral communication skills.
