Position Title Assistant Women's Tennis Coach UIW Mission

Position Summary

The Assistant Women's Tennis Coach supports the Head Coach and Director of Tennis in all aspects of operating a competitive NCAA Division I Women's tennis program. The position plays a key role in fostering a culture of accountability, development, and competitive excellence consistent with UIW's mission and Southland Conference standards. The Assistant Women's Tennis Coach reports to the Head Coach and Director of Tennis.

Note this position is funded for five years based on fundraising revenue with continuation depending upon fundraising success.

  • Assist in planning and executing daily practices, individual training sessions, and match preparation.
  • Provide technical, tactical, and mental development for student-athletes.
  • Scout opponents and contribute to match strategy and lineup decisions.
  • Coach during dual matches and tournaments as assigned.
  • Support strength & conditioning coordination in collaboration with performance staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Build and maintain relationships with coaches, academies, and families.

  • Ability to manage the myriad of on-going responsibilities within a competitive college tennis program, including effectively managing budget, travel, staffing, and parent communications.

  • Ability to build and sustain positive relationships with student-athletes, former student-athletes, faculty, alumni, staff, and San Antonio tennis community.

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree.

Required Work Experience

  • Two (2) years of collegiate or higher competitive tennis experience.
  • One (1) year of professional tennis coaching experience at the high school level or above. Note that graduate assistant coaching experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations

Must have a valid driver's license, driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW.

Work Hours

Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm with flexibility to include some evenings, weekends, and holidays based on team schedule.

Physical Demands

Ability to effectively move about to appropriately demonstrate plays and drills in this sport, as well as sideline coach during games.
