The Assistant Warehouse Manager (AWM) plays a critical leadership role in supporting the Warehouse, Fabrication, and Shipping/Transportation departments. This highly visible position is responsible for reinforcing company standards, modeling expected behaviors, and driving operational excellence across all functions. The AWM partners closely with leadership to ensure productivity, quality, and safety goals are consistently achieved while fostering a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
The following duties are representative of the role; additional responsibilities may be assigned as business needs evolve:
Train and onboard new hires, ensuring a smooth transition into warehouse operations and company standards
Retrain, coach, and continuously develop current associates to improve performance, productivity, and engagement
Create, implement, and monitor individualized performance improvement plans when necessary
Lead and support projects related to new warehouse technologies, systems, and process improvements
Provide leadership coverage for Supervisors and the Warehouse Manager during absences or as operational needs require
Identify and communicate quality, housekeeping, and safety concerns; partner with leadership to implement corrective actions
Ensure all machinery and equipment are operating efficiently, properly maintained, and used safely
Enforce compliance with all company policies, procedures, and safety standards, including OSHA regulations
Collaborate with Supervisors and cross-functional teams to identify operational gaps and implement continuous improvement initiatives
Evaluate current processes and recommend enhancements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and throughput
Promote a positive work environment by maintaining a professional attitude and serving as a role model for team members
Participate in and support safety meetings, training sessions, and accident prevention initiatives
Ensure consistent use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), including mandatory hard hat usage at all times in the warehouse
Assist with workforce planning, scheduling, and daily task assignments to optimize labor utilization
Drive productivity, accountability, and performance across all areas of the operation
Qualifications
Expert-level knowledge of warehouse operations, including receiving, inventory control, fabrication, and shipping processes
Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment
Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, high-volume operation

Proficiency in computer systems, including warehouse management systems (WMS), and ability to leverage technology to improve operations
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions
Ability to contribute to budgeting processes and manage resources efficiently
High level of attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality
Resourceful, proactive, and results-driven with the ability to take initiative and work independently
Sound judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and operational needs
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships

Commitment to safety, including knowledge of OSHA standards and enforcement of best practices
Flexible schedule with the ability to adjust hours and shifts based on business demands
Work Environment / Physical Demands
Office, fabrication and manufacturing shops – moderate to loud noise level. This position regularly requires standing; walking; sitting; use hands; reaching with hands and arms; and talking and/or hearing. Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds. The position regularly performs duties away from the place of business. Frequent driving is a requirement of the position.
The position may require duties performed off-site, with frequent driving as part of job responsibilities. Flexibility to work varied hours, including nights and extended shifts, is required to support operational needs.
