SUMMARY
Reports directly to the Wastewater Technical Superintendent and is responsible for assisting in planning, organizing, assigning, and supervising the activities of the municipal sewerage collection and treatment facilities along with supervising employees in the assigned areas. Work responsibilities extend to operation of an activated sludge plant, and associated facilities required to meet the treatment and disposal requirements of the City.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise up to 70 employees in the Wastewater Line Construction and Maintenance, Wastewater Treatment and Plants, Wastewater Lab; Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws; Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Must demonstrate computer proficiency in using office e-mail, and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Must be able to adjust data within automated reports.
Ability to effectively work with and promote a harmonious working environment with the City Administrator, Mayor, City Council, other City Departments, other governmental entities, and the citizens on the telephone and in person; ability to work amicably as a team to accomplish individual and group assignments and goals.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree in Math, Science, Engineering or a related field from a four-year
college or university; and five - seven (5-7) years related experience/training with at least two (2) years of administrative or supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents; Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community; Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format; Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations; Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver's License.
Must possess or be able to obtain Wastewater Collection IV certifications and Wastewater Treatment IV certifications within eighteen (18) months of hire.
