General Definition of Work

The HVAC assistant supervisor, under general supervision, performs supervisory work with limited decision-making discretion assisting in the coordination and oversight of work activities related to the operation and maintenance of HVAC systems across the school district. Position is also responsible for performing technical tasks including the installation, replacement, maintenance and repair of HVAC systems and equipment. Employee performs district-level work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the director of maintenance and engineering.

Place of Work

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

Essential Functions

  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
  • Lead, manage, supervise, and evaluate assigned programs/staff in the district
  • Assist in the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures
  • Respond to operational emergencies related to HVAC systems as required; troubleshoot issues to determine causes and implement solutions
  • Establish schedules and methods for the HVAC maintenance; plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work
  • Evaluate operations and activities of HVAC system installation, maintenance and repair; recommend improvements and modifications
  • Perform tests and maintain records for emergency backup systems
  • Procure materials and inventory as needed to maintain production of the crew following established policies and procedures
  • Repair HVAC deficiencies as noted by state and local fire, safety, and insurance
  • officials
  • Estimate cost of repairs (labor, materials); purchase materials/supplies; and maintain records involving time, labor, and materials
  • Maintain records of work completed and costs associated with projects
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions and identify plan of action to resolve problems
  • Instruct all employees in safe work practices
  • Safely operate a district fleet vehicle to travel to assigned job sites, ensuring compliance with all traffic laws and company driving policies
  • Maintain the vehicle in clean, orderly, and serviceable condition, promptly reporting any maintenance needs, damage, or safety concerns
  • Perform related work as assigned or required
