ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR CODE ENFORCEMENT

Plans, coordinates, assigns and reviews work of individuals and the team; evaluates training needs and provides instruction; schedules staff vacations and approves sick leave when supervisor is off; recommends discipline, disciplinary actions, discharge and salary increases; interviews candidates; conducts employee performance evaluations; and establishes and promotes employee morale. Formulates and develops work methods and practices, policies, standard operating procedures, and training programs; monitors implementation of rules and regulations; and updates and revises policies and procedures as required. Provides information and technical advice and interpretation concerning code enforcement or related issues to County staff members, the public, contractors, or others as needed; receives and responds to challenges and complaints regarding correction notices issued by subordinate staff, licensing restrictions and related issues; conducts research; provides detailed code information and legal references; and conducts training for officers. Updates department forms to reflect changes in laws, requirements and codes; develops and provides training to employees; and maintains training and certification documentation. Maintains a comprehensive and current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and standards; maintains and awareness of permitting, inspections, and practices, trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; and attends meetings, workshops, and training sessions as required. Performs other related duties as required. Bachelor"s degree in criminal justice, or related field is required; supplemented by five years of experience in code enforcement, to include lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina Driver"s License. Must possess and maintain the ICC Property Maintenance & Housing Inspector certification and obtain the ICC Fire Inspector 1 certification and SC LLR Certified Fire Marshal License within six months of hire.
