The individual in this position will supervise staff and assist in the construction, maintenance and repair of city streets, right of ways and landscapes, and special projects. Essential duties include: - Coordinates, supervises and organizes the day-to-day operations of the division under the direction of the Superintendent.
- Hires, trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates and disciplines personnel.
- Generates tasks for crews to be completed, including sidewalk repair, street maintenance, tree trimming and removal, right-of-way maintenance, and special projects.
- Reviews and prioritizes work orders from other departments.
- Enters work orders into the automated work order management system.
- Responds to public questions and concerns.
- Directs the purchase of tools, equipment and supplies.
- Reviews maintenance and fuel usage for all division vehicles and equipment.
- Assists Superintendent with required reports and supervises department in his/her absence.
- Operates a variety of equipment including, but not limited to: edger, weed eater, shovel, hand-held sprayers, chainsaw, leaf blower, demolition saws, pneumatic hammers, mowers, bushhogs, and tractors.
- Operates a variety of standard heavy equipment including, but not limited to: vehicles, aerial and boom slope mowers, articulating bucket lifts, clam and bucket trucks, trencher, dump trucks, articulated loader, rubber tire tractor/loader, trailer, bulldozer, backhoe loader, mini-excavators, off-highway truck, and skid steer loader.
- Performs pre-trip and daily inspections to assigned equipment or vehicle; checks brakes, lights, belts, hoses, fluid levels, air pressure, etc., reports equipment or vehicle service, maintenance, or repair needs to immediate supervisor. Records inspections and routine service log.
- Performs maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment in good clean working condition including, but not limited to: greasing, maintaining fluid levels, changing blades, tires, oil, filters, hoses, and nozzles; ensures necessary repairs are made.
- Loads and hauls gravel, debris, and other materials onto dump trucks to and from job sites and storage areas.
- Performs job site safety procedures to ensure and maintain a safe work space at all times.
- Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment, fuels as needed; assists in cleaning vehicles and other equipment.
- Performs job site safety procedures to set up and maintain safe work space at all times.
- Performs flagging duties associated with work zone traffic control.
- This position at times is required to assist in the set up and clean up of special events held outside of normal work hours.
- Assists and must be able to perform in all aspects of the department’s operations.
- Performs related duties.
