ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF SECONDARY AND ADULT EDUCATION

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree with emphasis on instructional leadership.
  • Valid State of Michigan Teaching and Administrative Certificate.
  • Five years of successful administrative experience, including minimum three years of building administrative experience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation and group facilitation skills.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

SUPERVISES: Teaching & Learning Staff, Adult Education Supervisor, Teaching & Learning Clerical Staff

JOB GOAL: To provide leadership for Rochester Community Schools to become a world-class educational system by guaranteeing a viable, high quality curriculum for all students.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the implementation and coordination of secondary curriculum development and for instructional services.
  • Articulates the secondary and alternative curriculum to the Board, administration, staff and community.
  • Coordinates professional development as appropriate to curriculum, instruction and assessment in conjunction with other curriculum department administrators.
  • Monitors state and national trends in curriculum, instruction, teaching, and learning.
  • Monitors state and national trends in curriculum and instruction.
  • Represents the District at local, state and federal levels in matters relating to the District's secondary curriculum and instructional programs.
  • Serves as a member of the Superintendent's Cabinet.
  • Serves as the district 504 Coordinator.
  • Attends Board meetings and Superintendent committee meetings.
  • Provides input to the District-wide budget for secondary education and curriculum department.
  • Supervises and evaluates the Secondary Program Consultants in collaboration with other curriculum department Executive Directors and Directors.
  • Oversees the secondary Learning Consultant and Counseling programs.
  • Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings and conferences, reading professional journals and other publications.
  • Keeps abreast of state and federal legislation impacting secondary and post-secondary teaching and learning.
  • Coordinates the preparation of District-wide course catalogues.
  • Works with the Human Resource department on secondary staffing.
  • Responds promptly and appropriately to parental issues.

  • Supports the Superintendent and district leaders in their overall administrative efforts; interprets his/her ideas and decisions to staff and public; keeps him/her informed on pertinent department developments and events; seeks his/her counsel on decisions as necessary.
  • Leads Strategic Plan work.
  • Demonstrates and models professional demeanor, resourcefulness and effective communication strategies with diverse groups.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
