Job Description

JOB TITLE: Assistant Superintendent

TYPE OF POSITION: Certified/ Administrative

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

SALARY RANGE: $130,000-$140,000

Full administrator benefits including health insurance supplement, 401(a) contribution


POSITION PURPOSE: The Assistant Superintendent provides executive-level oversight and strategic alignment across the district's operational and business divisions. Each division is led by a qualified director or manager responsible for day-to-day operations; this role focuses on ensuring those departments function cohesively, operate within district goals and values, and are positioned to effectively support student learning and staff performance.

The Assistant Superintendent serves as the bridge between the Superintendent's office and operational departments, translating district strategy into departmental priorities, removing cross-functional barriers, and ensuring accountability at the division level.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Translate district-wide goals and priorities into actionable direction for department directors.
  • Ensure all operational and business departments are aligned with the Superintendent's vision and board policy.
  • Contribute an operational perspective to district-level planning and decisions.
  • Supervise and evaluate department directors, providing coaching, professional support, and clear performance expectations.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex issues that exceed the scope of an individual department.
  • Review and approve departmental budgets in collaboration with directors, ensuring alignment with district fiscal priorities.
  • Ensure departments maintain compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and board policies
  • Support directors in navigating sensitive personnel, legal, or community issues that require senior-level involvement.
  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, streamline processes, and reduce costs without compromising service quality.
  • Provide executive direction during operational crises or high-stakes situations affecting safety, continuity, or community trust.
  • Serves as the Civil Rights Compliance Officer for the corporation.
  • Oversees district-wide student discipline. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently holds, or is in progress toward obtaining, Indiana Superintendent licensure through the Indiana Department of Education, with readiness to meet all state requirements.
  • Skilled in navigating complex personnel situations with professionalism and discretion.
  • Demonstrates disciplined work habits, follow-through, and attention to detail in high-accountability environments.
  • Ability to effectively present oral and written information and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, school staff, and patrons.
  • Provides leadership that supports instructional success through efficient operations, resource alignment, and staff support.
  • Other qualifications that the School Board may require.
