Job Duties

Responsibility / Duty

  • Maintains progressive approach to strength & conditioning by researching literature, observing programs at other institutions, and establishing valuable professional contacts/relationships. -Applies professional expertise to evaluate findings and develop programs to meet sport-specific needs and goals. -Supports, communicates, and collaborates with team doctors, athletic trainers, nutritionists, and other specialists to enhance the physical development of student-athletes. -Regularly assesses and refines programs to maximize positive results.

Percentage Of Time 40 Responsibility / Duty

Education, Training and Evaluation: -Conducts orientation sessions for athletic teams to explain and demonstrate the modalities of physical training to be used for each exercise program and the associated risk management considerations. -Teaches and instructs movement, acceleration, agility drills, speed and flexibility techniques. -Evaluates athletes to determine problem areas (weaknesses, imbalances, flexibility) and designs corrective programs. -Performs testing of athletes before and after program participation. Prepares results and an evaluation for each program.

Percentage Of Time 40 Responsibility / Duty

Communication: -Documents athletes' workout attendance, performance and test results. -Reports results to, and consults with, team coaches regarding the developmental progress or lack thereof for individual athletes. -Provides continuous feedback and recommendations to coaches and student-athletes regarding program improvements and changes. -Promotes the University's athletic program and assists in the recruitment process by meeting with prospective student-athletes on campus and providing friendly, positive and energetic recruiting presentations and personal interactions in the weight room.

Percentage Of Time 10 Responsibility / Duty

Professional/Staff Development:

  • Participates in the selection, training and supervision of strength and conditioning interns and student workers.
  • Actively participates in formal and informal professional development activities. -Maintains continuing education credits for certifications.

Facility Scheduling and Management:

  • Assists with the scheduling, maintenance, supervision and oversight of the weight room.
  • Works with the Athletic Facilities Office to schedule spaces to conduct team agility, speed work and conditioning sessions.
  • Enforces adherence to weight room policies and procedures for use and risk management of all training facilities. Insures adherence to safety, cleanliness and security standards and procedures.

Percentage Of Time 5 Responsibility / Duty

Program Development: -Works in conjunction with the head coaches of assigned teams to implement all aspects of training including scheduling, supervision, training environment, motivation, and goal setting for individual athletes and team. -Develops and implements year-round, sport specific training programs-including resistance, cardiovascular conditioning, flexibility, agility, and speed programs-to maximize athletic performance and limit injury potential.

Minimum Experience Required

Minimum of one (1) year full-time collegiate strength and conditioning coaching experience. Must have education and experience necessary to perform all the functions of a Division I Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach.

Minimum Education Required

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in exercise science or related field.

Minimum Licenses Required

  • CSCS or CSCCA Certified
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certified
  • Valid driver's license

Other Minimum Requirements

Knowledge of and commitment to NCAA rules

Test(s) Required Preferred Education

Master's degree from an accredited institution in exercise science or related field

Preferred Experience

  • Five (5) years of experience working in strength and conditioning
  • Experience working with a Division I program

Preferred Licenses

  • Additional strength and conditioning training certifications (ex. FMS, ISSN Nutrition, P.E.S. NASM)

Other Preferred Requirements Physical Demands

Must be able to participate in physical activity, lift heavy equipment, and demonstrate and assist with coaching Olympic style weightlifting.
