Primary Purpose: To support teaching and administrative staff in meeting the needs of students in Specials classes such as PE, Art, and Music at the Elementary Level.

Qualifications: Education/Certification Associates Degree or a minimum of 48 college credits

Paraprofessional Certification for Educational Aide or eligible for certification

Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to work well with children Ability to communicate effectively Proficient skills in typing, word processing, and file maintenance Effective communication and interpersonal skills Basic math skills Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office

Preferred Experience: Previous successful experience working with children

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support Perform routine clerical duties Assist with the administration and scoring of tests and assignments Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom Assist in the use, care, and maintenance of technology, athletic, and other equipment Organize and manage the routine work activities in the physical education office Compile, prepare, and submit various reports for the physical education office Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers Coordinate students learning needs through classroom teachers

Student Management

  1. Work directly with students individually or in small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher
  2. Assist with modifications and/or accommodations for key academic/physical/motor skill concepts
  3. Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside of the schools
  4. Keep the teacher informed of the special needs or problems of individual students

Other

  1. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as needed
  2. Willingness to receive intensive training in the needs of Elementary students
  3. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy
  4. Keep informed and comply with all state and district policies and regulations concerning primary job functions
  5. Other duties as assigned
