Description

The Assistant Special Systems Designer will assist on project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects including airports, aviation facilities, process, corporate, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities. The Assistant Special Systems Designer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting special systems technology, infrastructure, or security plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.

Assist in the design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.

Modify and assist with the production drawings for a variety of projects including but not limited to airports, aviation facilities, process, corporate, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities.

Assist in the Design of special system technology and security components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.

Applies knowledge of commonly used special systems technology and security engineering design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the professional engineering services industry.

Collaborate with senior team members, including engineers and designers, to develop drawings and documentation for Special Systems designs including but not limited to low-voltage technology, security, and audiovisual systems.

Research and compile project-related data as required by the project managers. Compiles studies and reports. Assist with specification development.

Conduct research as necessary to complete designs for rapidly changing technologies.

Update drawings provided by senior engineers or designers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD-related software.

Assists with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of airports, aviation facilities, process, corporate, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities.

Contribute to and/or facilitate project meetings.

Assist in performing field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in drafting technology or related field and 2 years related experience Required or

Associate Degree and 3 years related experience Required or

4 years progressive detailing and design experience Required

Strong understanding of design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel to develop the design deliverables. Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.

Ability to utilize both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.

Basic knowledge in design calculations and design systems.

Basic knowledge in the theory and practices of engineering discipline, competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline, and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.

Ability to work collaboratively with others, Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
