Description
The Assistant Soccer Coach is responsible for supporting the Head Soccer Coach in all aspects of the Soccer program, including student-athlete development, recruiting, practice planning, game preparation, and administrative duties. This position plays a critical role in fostering a competitive, disciplined, and student-centered program aligned with Hampton University, NCAA, and conference standards.
Examples of Duties
Coaching & Player Development
- Assist in planning and conducting daily practices, training sessions, and skill development
- Provide technical and tactical instruction to student-athletes
- Support game-day preparation, including scouting reports and opponent analysis
- Promote a culture of accountability, discipline, and sportsmanship
Recruiting
- Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes in accordance with NCAA regulations
- Build and maintain relationships with high school, club, and junior college coaches
- Coordinate campus visits and recruiting communications
- Assist in maintaining recruiting databases and documentation
Academic & Student-Athlete Support
- Monitor academic progress and support student-athlete success initiatives
- Promote personal development, leadership, and overall well-being of student-athletes
- Ensure adherence to team, department, and university expectations
Compliance & Administration
- Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, and university rules
- Assist with scheduling, travel arrangements, and team logistics
- Support equipment management and inventory
- Participate in administrative tasks, including reports and program organization
Game Day Responsibilities
- Assist with in-game coaching decisions and strategy adjustments
- Analyze game performance and provide feedback to players
- Support video breakdown and performance review
Community Engagement & Program Support
- Participate in community outreach, camps, and clinics
- Assist with fundraising and alumni engagement initiatives
- Represent the program and university in a professional manner
Typical Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- Previous coaching or competitive playing experience at the collegiate or high level
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
Preferred:
- Master's degree
- Collegiate coaching experience (NCAA Division I preferred)
- Experience with recruiting coordination
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification
Supplemental Information
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by practice and competition schedules.
- Ability to travel frequently for recruiting and competition.
