Description
The Assistant Shotgun Sports Coach supports all aspects of the shotgun sports program by assisting with coaching, recruiting, athlete development, practice planning, competition preparation, and administrative responsibilities. The position is responsible for promoting academic success, sportsmanship, safety, and compliance while helping foster a positive and competitive team culture. The Assistant Coach serves as a mentor to student-athletes and represents the institution in a professional manner both on and off the range.
Job Duties
- Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices, training sessions, and competitions.
- Provide technical instruction in shotgun disciplines, including trap, skeet, sporting clays, and other events as assigned.
- Promote and enforce firearm safety standards and range safety procedures at all times.
- Recruit prospective student-athletes and assist with outreach, campus visits, and retention efforts.
- Mentor student-athletes in athletic performance, academic progress, leadership, and personal development.
- Travel with the team to competitions and represent the program in a professional manner.
- Assist with scheduling, equipment management, inventory control, and maintenance of team firearms and related equipment.
- Help coordinate fundraising activities, community engagement events, and alumni relations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required, associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in competitive shotgun sports.
- Experience coaching, instructing, or mentoring athletes is preferred.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to pass a background check, have a valid U.S. drivers license and good driving record.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during practices, competitions, and recruiting events.
- Ability to safely handle, transport, and demonstrate the use of firearms and related equipment in accordance with established safety protocols.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach while setting up or breaking down ranges and equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors for prolonged periods in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and precipitation.
- Ability to travel by vehicle and occasionally work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on competition and recruiting schedules.
- Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity necessary to supervise activities, observe safety conditions, and provide instruction in a range environment.
