ASSISTANT SAFETY OFFICER

To be responsible for developing, implementing and ensuring that applicable codes are adhered to in accordance with federal, state and local requirements for OSHA standards, building, fire protection and life safety. To train employees in areas of fire prevention, emergency preparedness, OSHA compliance, life safety and general safe work practices.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Conducts documented safety audits and inspections in assigned areas and follows up with responsible parties to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Develops, schedules and presents general safety training programs such as fire safety and general occupational safety to assigned areas.
  • Works with building administrators and department heads in developing, reviewing and/or updating building disaster response plans. Conducts and documents construction safety inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA standards. Evaluates construction design plans for code compliance and participates in safety meetings for progress updates and any safety concerns.
  • Responds to and investigates incidents that involve property damage, occupational illness or personal injury and provides recommendations for prevention of future occurrences.
  • Schedules and conducts emergency evacuation drills in assigned areas. These may address severe weather, precautions, fire prevention, homeland security and medical emergencies.
  • Reviews and updates safety policies as warranted and directed by appropriate personnel in conjunction with the annual review process. Serves as a member of various committees.
  • Prepares and presents reports to the committees when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor''s degree in Fire Science, Safety Engineering or a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
