Job Summary:
The Assistant Rodeo Coach & Rodeo Livestock Care Specialist at Eastern Wyoming College supports the Head Rodeo Coach in leading a competitive and student-focused intercollegiate rodeo program that reflects the mission, values, and goals of EWC and the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA). This position involves coaching student-athletes, academic monitoring and mentoring, recruiting, assisting with daily operations of the rodeo program, and managing the care and well-being of rodeo livestock. The Assistant Coach would ensure proper daily care, feeding, health monitoring, and movement of livestock, while also assisting with hauling, scheduling, and coordination of animals for practices, events, and clinics. The assistant coach plays a vital role in creating a positive, inclusive, and development-focused environment both in and out of the arena.
Essential Duties:
- Assist in coaching and training student-athletes in various rodeo events, including rough stock and timed events
- Support student-athletes in balancing academics, athletic participation, and personal development
- Assist with identifying, evaluating, and recruiting prospective student-athletes in compliance with EWC and NIRA policies
- Build and maintain strong relationships with high school rodeo associations and families
- Help plan and execute practices, home rodeo, team travel, and fundraising events
- Ensure adherence to safety standards, competition regulations, and team expectations
- Assist with fundraising initiatives, and promotional activities for the rodeo program
- Support compliance with college policies and NIRA rules and regulations
- Provide mentorship and academic support, ensuring student-athletes remain in good academic standing
- Promote positive sportsmanship, accountability, and a culture of respect and inclusion
- Ability to work various hours, including nights and weekends throughout the year for practice, events and recruiting
- Assist with daily care of rodeo livestock, including feeding, watering, and general health checks
- Monitor livestock health and behavior
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized livestock facilities, including barns, pens, and arena spaces
- Assist with the transportation and handling of livestock for practices, competitions, and special events
- Maintain accurate records of livestock health, feeding, and treatment schedules
- Must be able to lift over 50 pounds; frequent bending, stooping, and walking required

Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree
Rodeo Experience as a competitor and/or coach
Experience with livestock care and handling (horses, cattle, rough stock)
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment

Basic First Aid & Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified or acquired within 3 months of hire
