As the Restaurant Assistant Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the overall management of the restaurant, ensuring excellent customer service, and contributing to the achievement of business goals. This position requires strong leadership skills, a passion for the hospitality industry, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
This is a salary, exempt position supporting a single restaurant, or multiple restaurant locations based on experience and ability, in our Northern California area. Our restaurants are located in North Beach, Union, Hayes Valley and Berkeley. You are required to take meal and rest breaks in compliance with company policy.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Report directly to Management and will oversee the restaurant in the absence of the General/Area Manager on site.
- Identify and delegate responsibilities to onsite staff to ensure objectives are met and excellent service is consistently achieved.
- Solely responsible for creation and adjustment of the Front of House schedule.
- Assist with the creation and/or adjustment of the Back of House schedule.
- Adjust staffing in real-time based on demand.
- Delegate and assign appropriate duties to employees as needed.
- Help ensure employees are properly taking meal and rest breaks in accordance with company policy, and timely reporting any noncompliance to Management.

- Follow the Italian Homemade Company s policies and procedures, including those for cash handing and safety/security.
- Help ensure other employees are following all company policies and procedures and timely reporting any noncompliance to Management.
- Implement new/updated company policies and procedures and instruct all staff.
- Provide directions to all staff to achieve restaurant goals by conducting pre-shift meetings.
- Consistently review operations to identify any problems, concerns, and opportunities for improvement. Develop and implement creative solutions to areas of improvement.
- Help create a positive, team-oriented culture and work environment.
- Manage operations with passion, integrity, and knowledge while promoting the culture and values of the Italian Homemade Company. Provide coaching and feedback to staff and assess performance on an ongoing basis.
- Create a positive guest experience by delivering a high level of service and ensuring all staff engage guests to understand their needs and exceed expectations.
- Manage the restaurant to meet or exceed standards in food quality, safety, and cleanliness.
- Consistently monitor product and labor costs to remain within goals.
- Solicit guest feedback to understand the needs and wants of customers.
- Assist in any area of the restaurant when staffing constraints require it.
- Additional tasks and projects as requested by Management.
- Perform any other kitchen and restaurant duties as needed to ensure smooth operations (this may include filling in for other positions who are absent)
- Be willing and able to drive between locations as needed. (I using a personal vehicle, you must record your mileage and will be reimbursed using the current IRS mileage reimbursement rate.)
Requirements and Qualifications
- Must have prior Restaurant and Management Experience.
- Proficiency in using point-of-sale systems and other relevant technology.
- Understanding of health and safety regulations in a restaurant setting.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle high-pressure situations.
- Ability to lift on average between 20 and 40 lbs.
- Ability to work in a high-temperature kitchen for an extended period of time as needed.
- Ability to stand and remain on feet for extended periods.
- Must be able to take direction from Management and delegate responsibilities as needed and/or directed.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and make good decisions in real-time as needed.
- Able to work a minimum of 30 hours per week including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Must have access to a vehicle to drive between locations as needed.
- Must have and maintain a valid California driver s license and current auto insurance coverage as required by state law.
This position must complete at least two hours of mandatory sexual harassment training within six months of hire/promotion and then at least every two years thereafter.
This position will receive additional annual meal and rest break training to ensure all hourly employees are taking their breaks in compliance with company policy.
All employees, including this position, will be trained on the company s Workplace Violence Prevention Plan.
This position will receive any additional training(s) as needed.
