Job Summary
The Georgia Cancer Center (GCC) at Augusta University (AU) is seeking a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Research Scientist. This position is intended for an active researcher within an academic setting who holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field, with demonstrated expertise in laboratory-based research focused on genitourinary cancers and related areas. The successful candidate must have a strong record of peer-reviewed original research publications, along with demonstrated proficiency in scientific writing, presentations, and relevant experimental methodologies. The position provides the opportunity to develop an independent research program with the goal of securing extramural funding and advancing career development and transition opportunities. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.
Responsibilities
Cancer Research - 95%
Conduct research with minimal supervision from the mentor on a daily basis. Research involves developing novel therapeutics for treating advanced bladder and prostate cancers, studies on benign prostate diseases, and heavy metal toxicities on federally and locally funded projects in mentors laboratory. Establishing collaborative projects between investigators at the institution. General supervision of laboratory personnel including, training new and existing employees on bench research and administration for laboratory upkeep.

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round. The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time. This position is (fully/partially) funded through external sources. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of these funds. Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds. The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is one of the nations largest medical schools by class size, with 304 students per class.
