Summary
Assists in planning, coordinating, and implementing a variety of recreation programs for the parks and recreation department and the Burgess-Rushing Tennis Center. Selects, trains, and supervises recreation staff.
Essential Functions
- Assist in planning, supervising, and conducting recreation programs, including athletic leagues and tournaments, or specialized recreation;
- Supervise officials and other employees;
- Assist in preparation of budget and program measures for an assigned area of recreation;
- Assist in preparing grant applications for program funding and assist in grant administration;
- Assist in collecting and accounting for fees paid for recreation programs;
- Develop and coordinate marketing and retention strategies;
- Perform related duties as directed.
Qualifications
Completion of a bachelor degree in recreation, physical education, or a related field with an additional one year of responsible recreation experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
Valid Current Drivers License

Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Recreation trends and philosophies.
- The game of tennis, pickle ball, softball, volleyball, basketball, and flag football.
- Youth sports safety and training requirements.
- Office practices and procedures.
Ability to:
- Plan, organize, and lead recreational activities;
- Plan, assign, and supervise the work of others;
- Keep records and keep reports;
- Communicate effectively with others.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Occasionally stand, walk, bend, and kneel during the shift;
- Occasionally climb stairs, ladders, and other inclined surfaces;
- Occasionally push and pull objects;
- Frequently rotate upper trunk to the left and right while sitting or standing;
- Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees;
- Place arms above, at, and below shoulder height;
- Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
