Assistant Project Manager - Plumbing The Assistant Project Manager - Plumbing supports the successful execution of plumbing and integrated mechanical projects. This role assists in coordinating project activities, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards while focusing on plumbing system design, installation, and performance within commercial, industrial, and critical environments. The position contributes to delivering high-performance, sustainable plumbing and mechanical outcomes for clients. Key Responsibilities- Assist the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and overseeing plumbing-related projects, including domestic water systems, sanitary and storm drainage, process piping, high-purity systems, fixtures, backflow prevention, and integration with other building systems.
- Support development and maintenance of project schedules, milestones, and resource allocation using industry-standard tools.
- Track project costs, prepare cost projections, monitor budgets, and assist in identifying and managing variances, change orders, or value engineering opportunities.
- Coordinate with internal teams (e.g., field technicians, plumbers, engineers, installers, subcontractors), vendors, and clients to ensure timely procurement, submittals, approvals, fabrication, and installation of plumbing equipment and components.
- Monitor project progress through regular site visits, report on status, risks, issues, safety compliance, and performance metrics to the Project Manager and stakeholders.
- Assist in quality control/assurance processes, ensuring compliance with project specifications, company standards, codes (e.g., IPC, UPC, ASPE), regulatory requirements, and safety protocols.
- Help manage documentation, including contracts, RFIs, change requests, submittals, as-built drawings, and project close-out packages.
- Support risk identification and mitigation efforts related to plumbing scope, material performance, technical integration, and project delivery.
- Contribute to client communication, attend progress meetings, and provide updates on plumbing system status, testing, startup, and performance.
- Participate in project handover, system testing/flushing/coordination, commissioning support where applicable, and post-project reviews to drive continuous improvement and lessons learned.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2+ years of experience in project coordination, assistant project management, or field/operations roles within plumbing, mechanical contracting, construction, or related industries.
- Familiarity with commercial plumbing systems (e.g., piping, fixtures, pumps, water treatment, medical gas where applicable, drainage/venting) and integration with HVAC or other trades preferred.
- Understanding of project management principles, including scheduling, cost control, procurement, and risk management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Project, Word); experience with project management software (e.g., Procore, Autodesk BIM 360, Bluebeam, or similar) is a plus.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors, and clients.
- Ability to travel to project sites as required and work in a fast-paced, field-oriented environment.
Preferred Skills & Attributes- Knowledge of sustainable plumbing practices, water efficiency standards, high-purity/process systems, and critical environment applications (e.g., healthcare, data centers, industrial).
- Experience in commercial construction or service environments (e.g., healthcare, education, municipal, industrial).
- OSHA 10/30 certification or relevant safety training in construction/mechanical fields.
