Assistant Project Manager - Data Center Electrical Construction

Job Description

Under the direction of the Project Manager and Regional VP of Construction, the Assistant Project Manager supports the successful execution of electrical construction projects within the data center sector. This role assists with project coordination, documentation, procurement, scheduling, financial tracking, and communication between field operations, vendors, subcontractors, and clients. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and eager to grow within the electrical contracting industry.

Responsibilities

  • Support project teams in maintaining a safe work environment and ensuring quality standards are met throughout project execution.
  • Assist with project budgeting, cost tracking, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Coordinate project documentation, including contracts, submittals, RFIs, meeting minutes, and closeout documents.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and field leadership to monitor labor productivity and resource requirements.
  • Help manage project schedules, milestones, and procurement activities to ensure timely project delivery.
  • Prepare and track change orders, contract modifications, and customer requests.
  • Coordinate with owners, general contractors, engineers, vendors, and field personnel to resolve project issues.
  • Submit and track product data, shop drawings, material submittals, and equipment approvals.
  • Assist with material procurement and delivery coordination to support project schedules.
  • Maintain accurate project records and ensure documentation is current and organized.
  • Support monthly billing, cost reporting, and revenue tracking in collaboration with the Accounting department.
  • Participate in project meetings and communicate updates to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with project closeout activities, including punch list completion, turnover documentation, and warranty tracking.
  • Develop professional relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and project partners.
  • Coordinate third-party vendors and suppliers to ensure project requirements and deadlines are met.
  • Utilize project management software to monitor progress, track deliverables, and analyze project performance.
  • Support continuous process improvement initiatives and implementation of company best practices.
  • Travel to project sites as needed to support construction operations and project objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience in electrical construction, mission-critical construction, commercial construction, or a related field.
  • Bachelor"s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Understanding of construction project management principles and project lifecycle processes.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems, materials, and procurement practices.
  • Experience reviewing construction drawings, specifications, and project documents.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project teams, field personnel, and clients.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large-scale data center, mission-critical, industrial, or commercial electrical construction projects.
  • Familiarity with project management software such as Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Primavera P6, ACC, or Microsoft Project.
  • Knowledge of RFIs, submittals, change orders, and construction procurement processes.
  • Understanding of project cost controls and construction accounting principles.
  • Exposure to low-voltage systems, structured cabling, or data center infrastructure.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Desire to advance into a Project Manager role within the electrical construction industry.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Menomonee Falls, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $55.00/hr.
