Job Title: Assistant Project Manager - Industrial Skid and Process Piping
Job Description
This role leads industrial skid and process piping projects from kickoff through delivery, ensuring that safety, quality, schedule, and budget objectives are consistently achieved. The Project Manager acts as the central link between engineering, fabrication, vendors, and clients, driving projects through design, procurement, fabrication, delivery, and closeout in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Own the full project lifecycle from initial design and planning through procurement, fabrication, delivery, and project closeout.
- Develop, manage, and maintain detailed project schedules, ensuring milestones and deadlines are met.
- Manage project budgets, including cost tracking, forecasting, and financial reporting, to keep projects within approved limits.
- Coordinate and align P&IDs, 3D models, isometrics, and shop drawings with fabrication execution to ensure constructability and accuracy.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams, the fabrication shop, vendors, and other stakeholders to keep work flowing smoothly.
- Oversee fabrication progress on the shop floor, including QA/QC activities, to ensure adherence to quality standards and specifications.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, proactively resolving issues that could impact schedule, cost, or quality.
- Manage procurement activities, including ordering materials and equipment, tracking long-lead items, and monitoring supplier performance.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the client, leading project meetings, providing updates, and managing expectations throughout the project.
- Prepare, review, and manage change orders, ensuring scope changes are documented, priced, and approved.
- Handle project billing activities, including invoicing and supporting documentation, in alignment with contract terms.
- Drive continuous improvement of project delivery processes, quality standards, and best practices.
- Coordinate internal resources, including project engineers, coordinators, and fabrication teams, to ensure effective execution.
- Support estimation efforts by providing project insights, scope clarification, and constructability input for future work.
- Utilize project management tools and Microsoft Office applications to document, track, and communicate project information.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 3-10+ years of experience managing industrial, manufacturing, or mechanical projects.
- 2+ years of experience owning projects from initiation through closeout.
- Experience handling projects with values of $5 million or more.
- Strong knowledge of piping systems, including fabrication and installation practices.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, and shop drawings.
- Demonstrated project scheduling skills, including planning, sequencing, and tracking activities.
- Proven budgeting and financial management capabilities for complex projects.
- Experience with change order management, including documentation, pricing, and negotiation.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and resources.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for reporting, documentation, and analysis.
- Ability to perform effective project coordination and project engineering tasks in an industrial environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Skid-based or fabrication-driven project experience is preferred.
- Experience in industrial construction management, mechanical engineering, or project engineering.
- Experience in estimation and design-related coordination for industrial or mechanical projects.
- Comfort working in fast-paced, production-driven environments with evolving priorities.
- Strong organizational skills for scheduling, budgeting, and inventory tracking.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with fabrication shops, vendors, and clients.
- Continuous improvement mindset focused on enhancing project processes and quality outcomes.
Work Environment
The role is based in an approximately 21-person facility that fosters close collaboration and direct interaction with leadership. You will work closely with the executive team while coordinating with engineering, fabrication, and project stakeholders. Standard working hours are typically 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., supporting a production-driven operation where projects move from design through fabrication under one roof.
