Hi! My name is Chris Amato, and I am the Owner / Builder at CMM Custom Homes. Thanks for your interest. I love designing and building homes -- taking an idea, a client, a property, plans, budget, schedule, and trades, and turning all of it into a home a family will enjoy for years. CMM has been designing and building homes along the Jersey Shore since 1983. We work throughout Monmouth and Ocean County towns like Avon-by-the-Sea, Belmar, Spring Lake, Sea Girt, Manasquan, Wall, Bay Head, Point Pleasant Beach, Brick, and more.

The Opportunity

We are looking to add an Assistant Project Manager / Builder's Associate to our team. This is not a show-up, punch-the-clock job. We want someone who wants to learn custom home building, enjoys the details, helps keep projects moving, and wants to be part of a team that is serious about getting better. You will work with Project Managers, Site Superintendents, Designers, Preconstruction, trades, vendors, and clients. Some days are organized. Some are messy. That is construction. The right person handles pressure, stays organized, communicates clearly, laughs when needed, and keeps pushing things forward. We are goal-oriented. We care about ownership, communication, follow-through, clean handoffs, and client experience. This role is not about sitting at a desk for 40 hours. It is about knowing what needs to happen, helping make it happen, and making sure nothing important falls through the cracks.

Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Follow-Up

Support Project Managers with daily coordination, follow-up, task management, agendas, meeting notes, action items, unanswered questions, and outstanding decisions.

Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, vendors, designers, and internal CMM team members so messages do not go unanswered.

Organize and log notes, decisions, interactions, delivery dates, vendor updates, and project information so records are clean and easy to act on.

Buildertrend / Project Documentation

Keep Buildertrend organized, current, and useful, including notes, logs, schedules, selections, approvals, purchase orders, photos, commitments, open approvals, and required documentation.

Keep project information clear for clients, field team, office team, and accounting.

Preconstruction to Build Handoff

Support a clean handoff from preconstruction to construction by reviewing plans, specs, selections, allowances, open items, missing information, unclear scope, and decisions that affect schedule, budget, or field execution.

Organize what the Project Manager and Site Superintendent need to start the job successfully.

Procurement, Bids & Purchase Orders

Bid follow-up, proposal tracking, vendor coordination, procurement, purchase orders, approvals, delivery dates, lead times, and related project documentation.

Assist with leveling trade pricing and tracking fixed-price budgets, allowances, and procurement-related cost information with the Project Manager and accounting team.

Permitting & Township Coordination

Proactively push permitting tasks, coordinate submittals, paperwork, pick-ups, drop-offs, and follow-up with towns, architects, engineers, and other professionals.

Track permit-related open items and make sure the team knows what is needed and by when.

Field & Site Support

Coordinate with Site Superintendents and field team members; support jobsite visits, documentation, photos, notes, and follow-up items.

Identify schedule blockers, missing materials, unanswered questions, trade coordination issues, and items needing clarification, correction, completion, or follow-up.

Respect the jobsite, the client's property, CMM's trade partners, and the details that make a custom home successful.

Client Experience

Create a strong client experience through clear communication, responsiveness, organization, and follow-through.

Help clients understand what decisions are needed, what is pending, what has been approved, and when selections, allowances, or decisions affect schedule or execution.

Team Support

Assist project management, preconstruction, design, finance, and field teams as needed while staying focused on the main goal: helping CMM build beautiful homes efficiently, professionally, and with a great client experience.

Other duties as assigned by management.

What We Expect of You

You are organized, follow up repeatedly, communicate clearly, understand details matter, and take ownership instead of waiting to be chased.

You are comfortable in a fast-paced construction company, flexible where needed, able to handle pressure without drama, and curious about how homes are built.

You understand custom home building requires teamwork, patience, urgency, accountability, technology, and a desire to build something long-term.

Experience in residential construction, custom homes, project coordination, construction administration, estimating, architecture, design-build, or related field preferred. CAD experience is a plus.

Interest in custom home construction, design, architecture, and the details of home building.

Familiarity with drawings, specs, schedules, selections, bids, purchase orders, and project documentation preferred.

Comfortable with online project management software; Buildertrend is a plus.

Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Strong communication, organization, planning, prioritization, and ability to balance multiple projects and tasks.

Ability to work with homeowners, trades, vendors, designers, project managers, and field staff.

Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally to jobsites, vendors, towns, and the CMM office.

Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required with the right experience, attitude, and ability to learn.

What We Offer You

You get to be part of a local Jersey Shore company that knows and cares about the communities we build in.

You get to work on beautiful custom homes in great towns, for real clients, with real details, schedules, and responsibility.

You get exposure to the full process: feasibility, budgeting, design, selections, permitting, construction, closeout, and long-term client support.

You will not be stuck in one lane. This role touches project management, field coordination, Buildertrend, selections, purchasing, permitting, client communication, trade follow-up, and daily details.

You will work with experienced PMs, Site Supers, Designers, Preconstruction, vendors, trades, and clients.

You will grow your construction knowledge, product knowledge, process understanding, communication skills, and leadership ability.

You will join a team working to get better, strengthen the middle of the company, and improve the experience for clients and our people.

You will be expected to take ownership, but you will also be supported, taught, and given room to grow.

Your work matters. When you follow up, organize information, push something forward, or catch a problem early, it helps the project, the client, and the team.

We offer health, dental, vision, and life insurance with company contribution; 401(k) with company match; paid time off; and holidays.

Compensation will be based on experience and fit for the role. Based on the responsibility level we are targeting, we expect this role to fall in the approximate range of:

$70,000.00 - $90,000.00

This role may be hourly/non-exempt or exempt with project-based time tracking. CMM is goal-oriented, and time tracking supports job costing, project visibility, workload planning, and profitability -- not a clock-punching culture.

Who This Is For

This is not the right role if you want a narrow desk job, a simple 9-to-5, or a perfectly predictable day. It is also not for someone uncomfortable following up, asking questions, learning construction details, using technology, or working through normal custom-home pressure. This is for someone who wants to join a growing custom home builder, learn the business from the inside, bring order to complex projects, work with good people, and help build homes families will enjoy for years. We want someone optimistic, organized, detail-oriented, hardworking, and willing to be part of the team.

At CMM, our values matter: Passionate. Be Optimistic. Innovative. Quality. Details Matter. Be the Builder.

If those words mean something to you, we would like to meet you.
