Responsible for teaching communication studies, journalism and public relations courses, including PR writing, PR campaigns, tactics, and planning, as well as teaching big data usage and research methods for journalism majors. Works with graduate students and develops online content.

The Department of Journalism is housed within the School of Communication in the Martin Luther King Jr. Humanities Building. It offers a Bachelor of Arts degree with concentrations in Broadcast and prints journalism, multimedia journalism, advertising, and public relations. The school will seek accreditation from the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC). The school has 580 undergraduate and graduate majors and intends to propose a doctoral degree program soon.

Essential Duties Summary

  • Teaches twelve credit hours per semester, primarily courses in public relations, digital media, multimedia storytelling, big data, and journalism fundamentals.
  • Additional teaching responsibilities may include communication courses needed by the School of Communication.
  • Integrates utilization of statistical knowledge and big data analysis in connection with research and social media analysis.
  • Serve as an undergraduate and graduate academic advisor, mentor students and advise student organizations.
  • Serves as an active and collegial member of the department, university and community.
  • Active participation in scholarly/creative projects and professional organizations.

Hiring Range $57,683.12-$74,988.00 Education

Preferred:

  • A minimum of a Doctorate degree in Journalism or Mass Communication with an established record of scholarly research and publication in the discipline.

  • Experience with the programs accrediting body, Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC), and previous experience in fundraising/extramural funding would be a plus
