JOB DESCRIPTION: Newberry College invites applications for a full-time faculty teaching position of Assistant Professor of Physical Education for the Department of Teacher Education beginning in August 2026. The qualified candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate courses in physical education and fitness for early childhood, elementary, middle level, and secondary education students.
In addition to teaching courses through our team environment in the educator preparation program of Newberry College, a candidate will be responsible for professional service, scholarly productivity, recruitment and retention initiatives, supervision of field and clinical experiences, and advisement for education majors. The Department and the College are committed to fostering excellence in diversity and inclusivity. Candidates with three to five years of PK-12 teaching experience are preferred.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Expected to teach in the traditional and online settings as assigned and to participate in activities in the Department. A complete list of duties and responsibilities can be found in the Faculty Policies Manual. Perform other duties as required, as assigned by the Department Dean or Chair, or in accordance with the faculty handbook.
EDUCATIONAL OR OTHER HIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
Master's degree in physical education from an accredited college or university required. Terminal degree preferred. Must have prior teaching experience. Experience with accreditation preferred. Must meet the College criteria for faculty appointment and have the ability to support the goals and mission of the College and the Department of Teacher Education.
