    The Assistant Professor of Graphic Design teaches undergraduate BA and BFA students the principles, theories, and professional practices of graphic design while fostering their creative, conceptual, and technical development. The position develops and delivers coursework in areas such as typography, publication design, branding, and package design, while overseeing the Graphic Design curriculum, studio equipment, and program resources. The faculty member advises students, supports thesis and capstone projects, and engages in scholarly research and creative activity. The role also includes service to the department and college through committee work, curriculum development, program assessment, accreditation efforts, and administrative support for the Graphic Design Program.

    Essential Duties

    • Teach undergraduate Graphic Design and Art Department foundations courses for majors and non-majors.
    • Teach a minimum of 3 undergraduate courses per semester.
    • Engage in scholarly research and professional activities.
    • Advise Art Department majors each semester.
    • Serve on College and Departmental committees.
    • Be willing to take on leadership roles within the department.
    • Assist with a range of administrative responsibilities for the Graphic Design Program.
    • Contribute to ongoing program development, participate in unit and program assessment data collection processes, and assist with efforts to maintain program approval and accreditation.

    Occasional Duties

    Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Department Chair.

    Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

    • Extensive knowledge of Graphic Design theories and practices.
    • Strong art content knowledge and skills.
    • Ability to teach courses and guide thesis projects.
    • Effective written and oral communication skills.
    • Effective technical skills.
    • Ability to work supportively and productively with students and colleagues.
    • Ability to engage in professional activities and conduct research.

    Required Qualifications

    • MFA in Graphic Design or a related field.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Significant professional teaching experience.

    Environmental Conditions

    Teaching/instruction is performed in a traditional classroom setting.

    Position Details

    FLSA Exempt Full Time / Part Time Full-time Proposed Compensation

    Additional compensation may be added for teaching at the collegiate level or other relevant experience.
