POSITION OVERVIEW

JOB SUMMARY:

The Department of Health Sciences and Administration at the University of West Florida (UWF), in Pensacola, Florida, invites applications for a 12-month, full-time position, at the rank of Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice in Respiratory Therapy. The salary for this in-person, non-tenure earning position will be commensurate with experience.

The faculty member will work collaboratively with the Program Director, Director of Clinical Education, medical director, clinical affiliates, and university partners to support program effectiveness, accreditation compliance, and student success. Will be assigned to teach didactic, laboratory, and/or clinical courses within the Respiratory Therapy curriculum, or in other areas as departmental needs dictate. Off-campus travel to affiliated clinical sites in Escambia, Santa Rosa, and surrounding counties may be required.

PRIMARY TEACHING & CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Teach assigned didactic, laboratory, and/or clinical courses within the BSRT curriculum
  2. Develop, update, and deliver course materials aligned with: a. Program learning outcomes b. NBRC credentialing expectations c. Evidence-based respiratory care practice
  3. Facilitate laboratory instruction, simulation activities, and clinical skills validation
  4. Supervise and evaluate students in laboratory and/or clinical settings as assigned
  5. Ensure safe, professional, and ethical clinical practice by students
  6. Provide timely feedback and assessment of student performance
  7. Participate in curriculum development and continuous quality improvement

PROFESSIONAL & SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintain active professional licensure, credentials, & certifications
  2. Participate in: a. Department meetings b. Program meetings c. Faculty governance d. Advisory board activities e. Accreditation-related initiatives
  3. Serve on Department, College, & University committees
  4. Contribute to program assessment, outcomes tracking, and reporting
  5. Support student recruitment, outreach, and program promotional activities
  6. Engage in professional service at the local, state, or national level when possible
  7. Participate in professional development opportunities

ACCREDITATION & COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Support compliance with all applicable CoARC Standards
  2. Assist with: a. Accreditation self-study preparation b. Ongoing data collection and documentation c. Programmatic assessment and continuous improvement
  3. Ensure instructional content reflects current standards of respiratory care practice
  4. Maintain accurate records related to instruction, evaluation, and student performance
  5. Uphold policies related to academic integrity, safety, and professionalism

• Combination of classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings • May require evening or early-morning commitments to support clinical education • Physical ability to demonstrate respiratory therapy procedures and assist students as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's degree in respiratory care, health sciences, education, management, or a closely related field from an accredited institution • Active, unencumbered respiratory therapy license eligible for practice in the program's state prior to the start of employment

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

• Preferred Qualifications: • Doctoral degree in a health or health-related field from an accredited institution • Experience teaching, supervising, and or evaluation of student in clinical/or laboratory settings • Experience with: o Simulation-based education o Competency-based assessment o Clinical education or precepting • Four (4) years of experience as a respiratory therapist, with at least two (2) years' experience in clinical respiratory care • Two (2) years' experience teaching as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC accredited program or as a clinical faculty member/preceptor for students of such programs • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential • Involvement in professional organizations (e.g., state or national RT associations) • Familiarity with CoARC accreditation standards and outcomes assessment • Effective communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
