The University of Miami Health System is initiating a search for an Assistant Professor of Infectious Diseases with Focus on Antibiotic Stewardship, Infection Control, and HIV Care.

The Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases is seeking a motivated Assistant Professor to strengthen our programs in antibiotic stewardship, infection prevention and control, and comprehensive HIV care. This role encompasses inpatient and outpatient clinical responsibilities, with opportunities for education, collaboration, and research.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide comprehensive care for pediatric infectious disease patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Collaborate with pediatric and adult ID leadership to advance the Pediatric Antibiotic Stewardship Program:
  • Conduct structured rounds with clinical pharmacists.
  • Promote, advise, and guide the development of successful local antimicrobial stewardship initiatives.
  • Participate in the development, education, and communication of infectious disease-related protocols to improve antibiotic decisions.
  • Analyze antimicrobial usage and implement strategies to optimize therapy and reduce costs.
  • Participate in the Antimicrobial and Anti-Infective Committee and other relevant committees.
  • Deliver high-quality care for children and adolescents living with HIV, including management of primary and specialty HIV-related issues.
  • Support infection control programs:
  • Develop, review, and implement policies to minimize nosocomial infections
  • Review and update electronic order sets and institutional protocols as needed.
  • Supervise and teach fellows, residents, and medical students.
  • Mentor trainees on quality improvement and research projects.
  • Share on-call responsibilities with other division faculty.
  • Engage in scholarly activity, including clinical, translational, or basic research, with opportunities for publications and grant development.

Desired Qualifications:

  • MD/DO degree.
  • Board-eligible or board-certified in Pediatric Infectious Diseases.
  • Be willing to obtain a Florida medical license and DEA certification.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in pediatric infectious diseases.
  • Familiarity with infectious complications in pediatric solid organ transplant patients.
  • Research productivity in clinical, translational, or basic studies.
  • Prior experience in HIV care, antibiotic stewardship, and infection control.
  • Familiarity with transplant infectious diseases.
