POSITION: Assistant Professor of Aviation Safety & Aeronautical Sciences

DIVISION|DEPARTMENT: Aviation & Safety Division | School of Business & Aeronautical Sciences

FLSA STATUS: Full-Time, Exempt

REPORTS TO: Chair, Aviation & Safety Division

The Assistant Professor of Aviation Safety and Aeronautical Sciences is a full-time non-tenured faculty position requiring a strong educational background specifically in more than one area of Aviation Safety and Aeronautical Sciences. The Assistant Professor of Aviation Safety and Aeronautical Sciences shall have the primary responsibility of supporting the Aviation and Safety Division by maximizing its operating performance while achieving institutional goals and objectives. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in aviation management and a passion for teaching the next generation of aviation professionals. This position is involved in developing curriculum, delivering instructions, and advising students.

Essential Functions

  • Provide visionary leadership to the Aviation and Safety Division, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Develop and teach courses related to Aviation Management, including but not limited to procedures, regulations, safety, and communication.
  • Create lesson plans, simulations, and practical exercises that reflect real-world flight and ATC operations.
  • Facilitate curriculum development and review to align with industry trends and best practices.
  • Collaborate with the division on curriculum development and program enhancement.
  • Guide the preparation and submission of accreditation documents and reports.
  • Collaborate with industry partners to create experiential learning opportunities for students.
  • Establish mentoring and advising programs to support student academic and professional development.
  • Foster strong relationships with aviation industry stakeholders, government agencies, and community organizations to enhance the divisions visibility and partnerships.
  • Promote the dissemination of research findings through publications and presentations.
  • Collaborate with university development and advancement teams to identify funding opportunities and engage with potential donors.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or deemed appropriate to the accomplishments of the responsibilities and functions of the Aviation and Safety Division.
  • The omission of specific duties does not preclude the division head from assigning tasks that logically relate to the position.

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average weight up to fifty (25) pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's degree in aviation management, Aeronautics, or a related field or bachelor's degree with five or more years aviation experience, doctoral preferred but not required. Training can also be from the FAA academy.
  • Aviation management certifications (e.g., AAAE-CM)
  • Extensive, progressively advancing professional experience (e.g., in airport/airline operations, safety management systems. Experience should be contemporary and verifiable.
  • Prior teaching experience at the collegiate level or in a professional training setting is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of FAA regulations, airspace management, airport, airline management and or International Business.
  • Proficiency with airport/airline simulators management software tools.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with accreditation processes and standards in higher education.
  • Proven experience in program development and curriculum design.
  • An understanding of current trends and challenges in the aviation industry.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to identify and pursue opportunities for division growth and success.
  • Previous experience in international aviation or international business.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies and advancements in aviation data processing and use.
