Job Summary

This position is for a 12-month, Director of Unmanned Aircraft Systems Management and Precision Ag Center and tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment with the primary responsibilities of teaching, research, and.service. Quality teaching, research/scholarly activity are required.

Duties and Responsibilities

The position also requires the holder to manage the ULM Precision Agriculture and Unmanned Aircraft Systems Research Center. The candidate will interface between ULM Unmanned Aircraft Systems Management faculty and community partners as well as seek and manage outside grants and funding. The director will also serve as liaison between ULM and the Federal Aviation Administration.

The teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses in Unmanned Aircraft Systems Management and General Aviation. Knowledge of unmanned aircraft and applications and a knowledge of general aviation within the National Airspace System is vital. Other teaching related responsibilities include academic advising, student recruiting and retention, and course/curriculum development. Must be able to teach both in person and remotely (i.e. Zoom) if necessary.

Research responsibilities include presentations at professional meetings and peer-reviewed publications. Articles in publications for industry is also encouraged.

The successful candidate will also participate in School, College, and University

Committees. The individual is expected to demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills with students, peers and administrators.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Masters degree or higher in Aviation (preferred) or a Masters degree in a related field.
  • Must have FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate. STEM classroom experience or equivalent preferred.
  • Proficient hands-on flight and maintenance experience with drones to include software / firmware updating.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for all drone/computer/simulator related issues.
  • Capable skills in photogrammetric software for data set processing for projects.
  • FAA Ground School Certificate for Private and Instrument rating or equivalent is preferred.
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate:

o Excellent teaching skills and the ability to function collegially as a member of the faculty of the College of Business and Social Sciences

o Good interpersonal skills

o Effective written or oral communication skills

o The ability and desire to work in a diverse interdisciplinary environment.
