POSITION OVERVIEW

The Department of Education at Southwestern University invites applications for a part-time Instructor to teach Instructional Strategies in Fall 2026. This field-based methods course prepares pre-service teachers for elementary and middle school teaching and requires candidates to incorporate experiences from practicum sites, including lesson planning and implementation, cooperative learning structures, assessment practices, and evidence-based instructional strategies. The course is part of the teacher preparation block and is taught concurrently with EDU 40-734, EDU 40-744, and EDU 40-700 Teaching for Social Justice Lab.

Because this course is aligned with Georgetown ISD's public school start date, the instructor must be available to begin teaching before Southwestern's semester begins. The successful candidate will be able to teach instructional methods through the program themes of diversity, reflection, collaboration, and technology, and will be prepared to coach candidates through planning, teaching, and professional growth in a formative, constructive setting.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D./Ed.D. in Curriculum & Instruction, Teacher Education, or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated success teaching instructional methods (lesson design, assessment, differentiation, classroom management, cooperative learning).
  • Experience supervising or supporting field-based/practicum teaching and coaching candidates using observation and feedback.
  • Familiarity with TEKS, instructional planning frameworks, and reflective practice in teacher preparation.
