Advertised Job Summary

The faculty of the Department of Mathematics at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a 9-month, full time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 16, 2025. The successful candidate is expected to: 1) teach mathematics courses at all levels, as well as probability theory courses at the graduate level; and 2) contribute to synergistically bridging important theoretical developments in probability theory and existing research areas in the Department, such as analysis, applied mathematics, graph theory, number theory, or data science; and 3) provide service to the academic unit.

Required Education and Experience

The position requires a Ph. D degree in Mathematics by the start date of employment, an outstanding research record, a commitment to effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and a demonstrated potential for excellence in both teaching and research. Expertise areas of interest include, but are not limited to, stochastic analysis, ergodic theory, random matrix theory, random graphs, and noncommutative probability.
