Museum staff are dedicated to working closely with students and faculty including recent co-curatorial projects and an annual faculty fellowship. The Weatherspoon is currently transforming its first-floor wing into the Cole Levin Center for Art and Human Understanding beginning in May 2026. The Cole Levin Center will place humanist inquiry at the core of the museums mission and be a resource for object-based teaching and learning that extends throughout the university and into the community. Additional arts and culture venues in Greensboro include the School of Arts Gatewood Gallery and downtown Greensboro Project Space a gallery venue for experimental productions and installations and the International Civil Rights Center & Museum a historic landmark and educational organization. Finally in Fall 2026 the newly constructed Jeanne Tannenbaum Center for Creative Practice will open on campus as a space dedicated to innovation for an array of forms and disciplines with technology for teaching research and community development. Position Summary The School of Art at UNC Greensboro seeks a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of East Asian Art History with preference for a candidate who specializes in Media Histories and specifically those of animation print or new medias. This colleague will teach across multiple media while also implementing broader surveys in the history of Asian Art. Applicants whose research and teaching address the Asian diaspora or trans-regional interactions in relation to these Media Histories are especially encouraged to apply.Ideal candidates will have experience with skills-based and culturally responsive pedagogies. The successful applicant for this position will contribute to and complement pre-existing strengths in the School of Art which is home to over 700 students across BFA and BA studio arts administration art education and art history majors and MFA studio art majors. Teaching a 33 standard load and directly serving the Art History area the successful applicant will have the opportunity to further develop and expand the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. New Assistant Professors in the School of Art are granted Graduate Faculty Status and serve on MFA thesis committees in one of the most vibrant fine arts graduate programs in the Southeast helping to foster the futures of contemporary U..S. and global art practices. The School of Art is part of the College of Visual and Performing Arts which is an area of distinction within the UNC System and its seventeen campuses.Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
