Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

This position is for an Assistant Professor Biomedical Engineering. Founded in 2003, the Lampe Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering is a unique collaboration between North Carolinas two flagship universities: The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) and North Carolina State University (NC State). The nationally ranked UNC Hospitals and School of Medicine at UNC-CH provide an excellent clinical environment for interactions and translation, and the College of Arts and Sciences forms the academic core of the Carolina experience. The College of Engineering at NC State, ranked one of the finest engineering and computer science schools in the world, offers state-of-the-art facilities for students and faculty engaged in vital areas of research and technology transfer. The mission of the Lampe Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering is to unite engineering and medicine to improve lives. Our departments three core values are: innovate, collaborate and translate.

Position Summary

We seek outstanding candidates conducting research in broad areas of interest which include (but are not limited to), computational modeling and simulation, neuro-technologies and neural engineering, biosensors, biomedical signal processing, machine learning, and image analysis, multi-scale modeling, translational computation. Outstanding candidates at the interface of computational biomedical engineering and scientific computing are also encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will have demonstrated the potential or already have established a highly competitive independent research program. The candidate must have an interest in developing collaborations with both basic science researchers and clinical investigators. The applicants research should include a clear pathway to commercialization or translational/implementation in human populations. The selected candidate will have a primary appointment at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with tenure home in the College of Arts and Sciences, and will have access to the resources at both UNC and NC State. This position will be provided a dry/computational/electronics lab and office space on the UNC Chapel Hill campus.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Qualified candidates should have a doctoral degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Neuroscience, Electrical Engineering, or related areas, and have demonstrated excellent capability for scholarly activity during post-doctoral research.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Candidates will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate student education, and may teach classes in the areas of electronics, controls, biomedical instrumentation, neural engineering, physiology, or related classes.
