GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
The individual serving in the role as MEDEL Program Administrator and Professor understands and is committed to the educational values of a Christian, liberal arts education. QUALIFICATIONS:
An earned doctorate is required for one serving in this role. Assignments and responsibilities require high levels of professionalism and confidentiality. Effective performers manage multiple projects well, work with deadlines, and adjust to changes in assignments. Necessary knowledge, skills, and dispositions for the position of Program Director and Professor include the following.
BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Developing and revising appropriate curriculum aligned with appropriate state, national, and institutional standards
Managing/aligning the program curriculum to meet state certification standards and the integration of faith and learning, including course work that reflects quality, rigor and current research-based theory and practice
Develop systems to best prepare students for success on the state certification exam(s). Monitor, analyze, and report on certification exam data.
Develop and/or consistently implement systems to accurately collect, retain, and report on data and required documents needed to increase effectiveness and comply with DBU, state, federal, and accreditation requirements.
Assessing program effectiveness and creating reports for accrediting agencies (e.g., SACS, AAQEP, TEA, ABHE, etc.) and otherwise. Developing program description and annual reports for program area including learner centered outcomes (LCO) and assessment of LCO's.
Evaluating program effectiveness by remaining knowledgeable of current trends in higher education through professional development activities such as research, conferences, seminars, and collaboration with other educational leaders.
Teaching courses that effectively integrate faith and learning, while reflecting current, research-based knowledge and best practices
Advising and mentoring students (including international students) for student retention and support:
Assist students with registration, graduation, and other processes of the University and students' university life adjustments
Answer questions and initiate regular communication with students
Help resolve problems (both logistically and through prayer)
Counsel for career development and employment opportunities (during and after program completion)
Completing special projects.
Developing new class schedules with careful consideration given to DBU's scheduling policies, the course rotations, and teaching assignments
Coordinating intern/practicum placements
Providing textbook selection as well as the design and maintenance of a regular course rotation that allows students to progress through coursework
Recruit, vet, and ensure quality adjunct faculty meet all DBU and accreditation requirements
Communicating with adjunct faculty and monitoring syllabi, etc., to ensure proper alignment across sections and with standards
Working together with Graduate Affairs representatives and a variety of offices on campus (e.g., Registrar, Cashier, etc.) to recruit students and support student needs (retention), and program development
Participating in department events, including Educator Preparation Program Advisory Board, College of Education (COE) Defense of Degree, COE adjunct workshops, and DBU meetings including DBU Advisory Councils, curriculum workshops, AAQEP and campus activities
Serving on committees (institutional, departmental, and specialized professional associations)
Giving presentations to student groups, DBU personnel, and DBU guests, as requested, and participate in academic training events
Completing special projects as assigned by Dean, Provost, Graduate Affairs, and President.
Professional development activities and contribution to the wider field as a scholar through reading journals, attending and presenting at professional conferences, and writing publications.
Contributing to the larger social and faith-based community through volunteer service in churches and/or community organizations, etc.
WORK SCHEDULE:
This is a full-time faculty position. Faculty members maintain a 40-hour work week, with at least ten (10) scheduled office hours per week, in addition to advising, mentoring, and program responsibilities.
