Assistant Principal - Horizon Middle School

Kearney Public Schools is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Principal at Horizon Middle School starting the 2026-2027 school year. This position has a 215 day contract. Candidates must hold a valid Administrators Certificate. Demonstrated successful administrative leadership is preferred. Position is open until filled.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The administrator will meet all qualifications and behavior standards as set by State of Nebraska authority. In accordance with certification requirements and the performance expectations of the Kearney Public Schools, all administrators shall meet the following employment criteria:
- Masters Degree in Education is required.
- Must hold or be eligible to obtain a Nebraska Department of Education Administrative Certificate with a 7-12 Principal endorsement.
- Prior Administrative experience in an educational setting preferred.
- Knowledge of curriculum development, technology, supervision of staff, staff evaluation, discipline policies, school laws, management of staff and students, planning, and community relations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
(Include, but are not limited to)
- Provides guidance for staff and students.
- Assists principal in providing appropriate and effective learning environment at the elementary level.
- Assists in developing teacher schedules.
- Assists with building goals and objectives.
- Assists principal with curriculum development.
- Plans building staff in-services.
- Administers district discipline policy by establishing building guidelines for students and staff.
- Assists principal in marketing educational programs.
- Confers with students, parents, and staff.
- Establishes and maintains effective oral and written communication.
- Assists principal in staff and program evaluations.
- Organizes and provides leadership in the building.
- Serves on building and community-based support groups.
- Serves on district committees.
- Serves as a positive school representative when working with the media.
- Performs duties as assigned by the building principal.
