Promote all students' equitable educational development and achievement to attain measurable student growth and performance in accordance with Board of Education policies, administrative expectations, procedures, rules, regulations, and applicable law. Provide leadership in school program development, oversight, and continuous improvement in curriculum and instruction, personnel matters, staff development, school budget, purchasing, public relations, and support for overall building operations. Serve as a role model and advocate for the school with students, parents, staff, and the community.
Job Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Educational Leadership or successful completion of a leadership development program.
- Possess or be eligible for Assistant Principal Certification in Delaware.
- At least five years of successful teaching or educator experience.
- At least two years of demonstrated and effective leadership experience in an educational environment.
- Strong background in teaching and learning, building operations, educational leadership, equity, and effective community relations.
- Exceptional interpersonal, writing, and public speaking skills.
- Brandywine School District internal candidate, preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Assists the building principal in comprehensive school leadership and administration consistent with district goals and benchmarks.
- Assists in recruiting and selecting employees, properly maintaining confidential employee personnel information, administering collective bargaining agreements, corrective action, and other human resource issues.
- Assists in ensuring that federal, state, local, district, and Board of Education policies and procedures are implemented and followed at the school level.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and works with teaching staff to modify instructional methods to fit students' needs.
- Supervises, observes, and evaluates teacher and specialist performance related to academic and social/emotional learning/behavior; makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement, and continued employment as necessary within the guidelines established by the State law and negotiated agreement.
- Ensures student conduct and attendance conform with the Code of Student Conduct and district policies.
- Supervises and evaluates other support staff and departments and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement, and continued employment as necessary.
- Proposes and supervises the preparation of class schedules, master schedules, and extracurricular activities
- Requisitions supplies, textbooks, and equipment; conducts inventories; maintains records; and checks on receipts and budgeting for materials.
- Collaborates with department heads and faculty in compiling annual budget requests.
- Collaborates with parents, faculty, and student groups to promote student achievement, organize special events, and coordinate student activities.
- Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to student learning.
- Promotes parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Continues acquiring professional knowledge and learning of best practices in the educational field through professional development and encourages the same in school staff.
- Supports evening and weekend programs and performances.
- Fulfills the responsibility of the principal in their absence.
- Performs all other duties and administrative functions as assigned.
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, use hands to the finger(s), handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; use fingers to type and write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, and color vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds. A second person must assist if lifting more than this weight is necessary. The physical demands of this position will also include the ability of the individual to perform all of the essential functions and related responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.Work Environment: This position normally performs most of the work in a school building or work office environment.
