Job Summary

Responsible for managing the daily operation, administration, supervision, and programming of the Lebanon Memorial Pool. Position includes maintaining a safe environment for the public and staff members, record-keeping, report preparation, staff training, supervision, and evaluation of staff. Pool maintenance is also a daily responsibility.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

These job duties and responsibilities are representative. Specific duties may be assigned to others and/or added to meet the City's business and operational needs.

• Ensures the safety of all patrons and staff. • Oversees the rescue and care of accident victims. • Plans; organizes; instructs; supervises; and evaluates staff. • Manages daily records of attendance; receipts; and deposits. • Manages and analyzes sanitary water conditions and the maintenance of filter systems. • Manages accident response; rescues; assists; and first aid delivery. • Acts as a lifeguard and/or swimming instructor on a regular basis. • Manages the opening and closing of the pool facility.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

18 years of age or older. Graduation from high school or equivalent. Other combinations of education and experience that qualify an individual to perform the job duties and responsibilities may be considered.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of the pool programs and ability to enforce all policies; procedures and regulations set by management. • Working knowledge of emergency services available in the community in the event of an accident. • Previous experience as an Assistant Pool Director; Pool Director; or Head Lifeguard desired. • Demonstrated leadership and excellent customer relations skills. • Ability to provide instruction; training; and evaluation of other pool staff at a high level of competency within guidelines set forth by the Pool Director. • Professional presentation and positive role model in the execution of duties; at all times. • Ability to manage large or small groups of program participants; able to address behavioral issues and diffuse conflicts in an effective and courteous way. • Able to make decisions in the best interest of the City and Recreation Department's policies. • Ability to recognize areas needing improvement and to take initiative to implement corrective measures and meet the highest expectations in safety and cleanliness of the facility. • Demonstrated knowledge of pool operations including sanitation; maintenance; and safety procedures. • Demonstrated competency in filter maintenance. • Successful completion of chemical safety and management training. • Ability to assume additional shifts on short notice.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Required certifications include: • Water Safety Instructor • Lifeguard Training • CPR and Standard First Aid or equivalent

Preferred certifications: • Certified Pool Operator or equivalent

Physical Requirements

The incumbent is required to work outdoors and in adverse weather conditions; such as extreme heat; precipitation; etc. The incumbent is required to stand; walk; and run up to 90% of the time; sit and stoop; squat; kneel; crouch or crawl up to 20% of the time; and talk or listen/hear (with or without correction); use hands; and reach with hands and arms up to 100% of the time; swim up to 30% of the time. The incumbent frequently lifts up to 10 lbs.; occasionally lifts up to 40 lbs.; and seldom lifts up to 60 lbs. The position has normal vision requirements with or without correction. Equipment operated includes medical equipment (AED).
